So tonight on Roku I find this movie that doesn't look too bad, on "Crackle." It makes no difference but it's "Cold Blood"

But this is a "free" movie so it has ads......every so often, 4 or 5 short 10 second or so spots. And you can not get out of them. The only Roku button that is active during ads is the "home" button

So I'm watching this, and putting up with the ads, and at some point "ad 3 of 5" just SAT there with a blank screen........nothing.....

No recourse but to hit the "home" button and get back into the "app" for "Crackle" and re-find the movie. The damn thing is so dumb it doesn't even have a "continue watching" list.

So I find the movie.......and there's no way to get back in but to start over and fast scan through the damn thing........from the beginning...........which is a PITA in and of itself........

BUT HERE IS THE KICK...........every 10--15 seconds or so you spend fast scanning through the thing.........IT STOPS for 4 or 5 more ads!!!!

Took me frickin 15 minutes to get back to where I was in the movie!!!

On a side note.........it just triggered 5 more ads!!!!

LOLOL

Our new TV gets "all that" but we don't use it. I just hawk eBay and buy the dvd. lol

One could argue that KODI is too dang complicated but... I think you could have it learnt in the time you've spent watching commercials.

I realized this morning what some of the trouble is..........'apps'......... When Windblows Xtra Putrid and Sleven got a bit mature, many aftermarket software sort of became "a pattern" that is you could fire up some software, and expect some sort of common thread going on. But many of these online "channels" are so much different than each other, its as if you are starting all over with the "features" and operation of each one.

Software "engineers" need to spend a LOT more time asking themselves "can people really use this" instead of patting their egos on the back

I watch a LOT of movies on a free streaming app called TUBI. There are a few ads in each movie, but I have never had a problem. Tubi has thousands of movies. Westerns, Sci Fi, Adventure, you name it.

Well, maybe a thousand. We like old B&W Sci Fi movies. Tubi has some we had neve heard of. They are so bad, they are actually funny.

LOL, my Wife was bitching about that exact same thing the other day.

Don't go on YouTube then. It seems like there's at least 5 sets of these 1 or 2 ad interruptions in each video I watch. I'm sure they are trying to aggravate people into paying for the ad free subscription.

What are you talking about?

All of the ads on YouTube, it's like the app you are talking about. I think they do it to get you to do a subscription to their service without ads.

The ads on YouTube are not the problem. I can block them. And they don't do what I described. The app tried to play an ad which froze the whole procedure. THAT is the problem. They are morons.

You are comparing reading the Sunday comics to drinking beer. It is a completely different situation.

Yeah that does suck, but so do all the ads in my opinion. I had Crackle years ago and quit using it because of issues like this and all the ads. I don't know if it's the same, but it seemed like every 5 minutes there were a set of ads that popped up. And it would freeze, kick me out, and then I would have to restart whatever I was watching just like you had to.

We are now going modern, getting fiber optics or I guess you call it cable, here in the sticks. Main reason it is cheaper for gibabites for the computer and now we can get Roku or what ever it is called. Trying to get off the darn DishTv.
THere are soe things e watch on Dish channels, not sure if these can be had thru the cable or price...we will see.
If I had a good (cool) shop, I could just work out there 24 hrs a day and say , screw the TV!!!!
We will see!
