A855 - 5 Speed

Haha! Wrong!
I bought a complete TKO600 kit from SST for my A body in June and it does NOT include an upper crossmember piece. The lower bolt in trans mount is nice though.

That's right, I guess they are relying on the sheetmetal pieces they supply to restore the integrity. I talked to two SST reps at Caflisle in July and asked them about it. They feel it is not required. I asked if they did testing and the answer I got was not very assuring at all. Just something about driving around and then putting weight on the fabbed tunnel. Speaking of which, the instructions say to fasten the tunnel cover with sheet metal screws! You can see the instruction sheet on their web site.
Being retired from engineering, I'm going to make my own upper.

Well that's like the old Kiesler kit. Also for what the TKO600 costs you may as well do a T56 Magnum. Here's the thread on the T56 Magnum Conversion: T56 Magnum Conversion

What a colossal debacle.

When I was reading through it I couldn’t help but feel that if the owner of the trans didn’t have that level of sheer determination to get it resolved........ it never would have been taken care of.

That was a **** load of time and work!!

I take my hat off for the effort to make it happen.

As a side note...... a friend of mine had a SS 6 speed put into his 71 Charger...... loves it.

Wow, some story, thanks to Matton for perseverance and taking the time and effort to share it with us.
About 2 years ago, I was on the list to get a call for the 5 speed when available.
It was supposed to easily bolt up as the 833.
Last year, at Carlisle PA Chrysler Nats, heard a buzz about this trans having huge problems.
I never did get the call.
Im okay with the original 4 speed.

Thanks to 2 fabo members I am back on the road and we are thoroughly enjoying Fry again!

@jtkaaa07 for the refreshed trans, covered earlier, and @66fs for not only helping me locate the correct reverse rod but sending me a rebuilt shifter. Fyi, a rebuild kit, rods and arms are not available new for the bench seat 64-67 Hurst.

Driving it yesterday I noticed I'm still anxious about shifting into 4th, but that will pass.

I can focus on other things now as well, just got new rims/tires for the front, which match the rear, finally, now on to getting full throttle. I've tried some mods but I'm thinking of getting a new pedal assembly that is adjustable, if available. I have the Lokar cable.

Best shifter ever for an a-body bench!

what trans is in it now?

Wow, I was saving up my bucks for the 855 but I think I'm going to rethink that decision. I have to compliment matthon for his restraint. I fear I would have called in the ambulance chasers early.

That's great man. It ain't even my car but my heart is warm for you. I know how happy I am when I drive Vixen down the road and she's just a slant.

I meant to post something sooner, or during the install, but stuff happens, and too much to do in one day, etc.

Received May of 2018.
Trans marked Tested 10/31/17.
Stored in my house, and I would spin it occasionally.

Arrived in a wooden crate, new 5 speed shifter installed, tail shaft capped and taped off, speedo plugged with plastic cap.
Comes with backup light switch, does not include speedo pinion adapter.

Had some fluid in it so must have been tested.

Looks fantastic, shifter is extremely nice, need to source your own shifter handle and ball.

Is it for sale ?

I'd wager that if he had to do it all over again, he wouldn't. I think that Passon got in over his head and is now trying to exit with whatever dignity he can muster. But as far as just dumping the guy, he offers a good selection of A833 parts and that is something we all are going to need sooner or later.

Ok ... too many pages to read the whole thread over again but I have followed it loosely.
Has everyone with these tranys had issues ? If not what percentage ?

With all due respect, I completely disagree.
I know what I know via direct experience, on the phone and in person, over many months, many opportunities.
There is no evidence of trying to exit any involvement with the A855, by his own admission and his website. In fact, the last few posts include people who have called to inquire about the A855.

Dignity is not in his vocabulary.
He told me he already spent too much time on me, after only a few calls, and then decided he would not drive to my house after stating he would after Carlisle.
And that's just the proverbial tip of the iceberg.

Fast forward to last week, a disabled vet calls with limited time, and no mention of any potential issues with these trans?
I don't believe for a minute the vet didn't explain his situation, because he immediately joined fbbo last Wednesday and posted about it.

In the same thread, a fbbo member chimes in regarding a new rebuilt trans, not an A855, with a warranty, and I quote, "Just as with others who have had warranty claims, Jamie instead from the get-go tried to deny
culpability and rather arrogantly tried to blame me for the issue with the transmission."

Exactly what I experienced.

From my earliest posts, I didn't seek to bash anyone or place blame, just give them the opportunity to make it right, and also the time.

I've stressed this throughout, it's more about the recovery than any mechanical issue.

No ownership, no empathy, no accountability, no follow up or follow through, no remorse, no dignity earned.

Has everyone with these tranys had issues ? If not what percentage ?

I did a search on fabo a year ago and found 1 trans that popped out of 4th. The member hasn't been active for years. I found another here with an issue but I couldn't find it again.
Iirc, there were 2 within this thread with no issues to date, and 2 who have yet to install.

The bigger problem, imo, is a minimum of 12 trans, 9 in one month, with the same exact issue.
A855 - 5 Speed

GFI states they have built 300 to date, unfortunately they are full of crap on a regular basis.
Our Story

By the time Huff got involved multiple trans had suffered damaged cases during shipping, broken bellhousing mounting tabs.
Did they 'fix' those, or just transfer the guts, and if transferring guts did they count that as 2 trans built?
My gut says yes.

With all due respect I defer to your personal experience. The best person to comment on a game is a player (you), not someone in the stands watching (me).

Behind every good man is usually a good woman.
I heard, from another vendor, she raked him over the coals and split.
That would test anyone.

I haven't had any problems with the B-Body a855 in my 70 440 6bbl Roadrunner. My 1320 trips have been a lot less often than I'd like because of traction problems, but I just upgraded everything to resolve that, so I expect to be beating on it soon.

I rarely post on threads like this one, but fter reading this thread and looking at that trans as an option, I empathise with the OP fully as Ive been on the receiving end of behaviour like this once before. I would'nt go near this clown if he had a blue cape with a big S hanging out of his a$$.

As for the dame, cry me a river, so what if she split - that has nothing to do with the OP.

If I was in the OP's shoes, I would have jammed the trans so far up this dickead 's *** the input shaft would have been his Adam's apple.

Got ZERO tolerance for pr!cks like this anymore and it ain't even about the money.

Glad he was able to move on from these imbeciles. I shudder to think how difficult it would have been to get this resolved from the other side of the globe when the OP could barely get it sorted in his own backyard.

DO NOT tolerate this kinda BS guys, EVER.

I'm really pleased it all worked out for you, your patience and tenacity paid off in the end. I'm still amazed at all the crap you got put through, it's no way to run a business.

I don't know anything about the dame, don't care. What I do know is the dame that was there when I gave it back was certain it was no big deal that the funds did not transfer immediately.
As I stated however many pages back, and at that exact moment, it was a big deal. It meant there was no credit card attached to his paypal account, his business paypal account, his alleged I'm a big boy and own my own reputable business with outstanding credit, or any credit, paypal account.
That is wrong on so many levels.

Not sure if I ever mentioned this, but when he saw the color I painted it he commented he really liked the color, asking what color is it?
I laughed it off, ha, real funny.
He was serious, I had to tell him, the Mopar guy, I'm being serious right now.

Anyone know the color of this trans?
