The are RN has a bigger hex and slightly taller. Any problems with one versus the other

Physically it looks like the RN has a longer reach into the combustion chamber.

They are both classified as 3/4" reach. I think the first "C" means "compact." I have no idea as to performance. Bear in mind tho, that the heat range is relative ONLY to once series of plug. In other words you cannot compare heat range numbers, tho they might be close

I can tell you this the standard RN or N plug won’t fit in a Edelbrock head. There’s no room for the socket. I found that out.

That's what I was wondering what kind of issues you might have so with stock heads not that problem

Are saying RN 12& RC12 Will probly have a different heat. Is that because the size of the plug Outside of the reach dissipates heat difference

I found out by accident. When building my 416, I just ordered the equivalent N-9Y Like I have since Moby Dick was A minnow. And bam I found out I needed the mini plug.

Must have been camera angle then. The threads look the same length but pas that the RN looked longer.
It is physically larger. It’s a standard 13/16” socket. The smaller plug is a 5/8” or 11/16” socket. I don’t recall which.

Don't think you can eliminate an entire line of something When youyou have a problem with one of them. maybe you're tuning was off for that particular plug.

What autolite do you recommend

What heads is he using ?? I have been using 3924's for years in my Edelbrock heads never an issue!!!

And now an annoying story from the old days

In the early 70's, stationed at NAS Miramar, I had a part time job at the auto hobby shop. I came across two sailors, who told me they were having trouble getting his old Corvette to run. So I went with them, it was "downtown" at the "32nd st" Navy base. Turned out the thing had a weird ignition called a "du-coil" If you have never dealt with one, DON'T. They are two 4 cyl ignition systems in one distributor. One set of two pairs of points fires 4 cylinders and the other set fires the other 4....weird cap and rotor, two coils

But the Ducoil is not the story here. I managed to get the points changed in the thing, and bear in mind that gapping the points is VERY critical, as the timing changes between the two systems as per point gap.

I pulled a plug and it was A CHAMPION N_Y series!!!!
He had bought J_Y which was correct for a ??62ish Vette, BUT THEY WOULD NOT START IN THE HOLES!!!

Turns out he had an early? set of peanut plug heads had made their way onto the engine, valve job I don't know what, and when someone installed the plugs and could not get the J series to go, they stuck those long *** N 3/4 reach in there

Sent him out to get a set of 5/8 short reach tapered seat plugs and away we went.

And they didn’t hit the piston? That ignition system looks like something out of back to the future. I’m 65 and I’ve never seen one. Till now

Interesting. Never seen that ignition system before. Is that a Mallory deal? Kinda looks like Mallory.

What’s funny (as in funny like there is nothing new under the sun) I have pictures somewhere from the National in Seattle and at that time, Pro Stock were using two complete ignition systems.

They set them up so they worked like two 4 cylinder systems. I actually talked to David Reher about it, because one of my buddies thought the second box and coil was for back up.

Interesting also was he told me they were testing new boxes that would be good enough to have just one box, and in 1989 they had only one box.

Id think the 2 4's would allow longer coil saturation like a dual point but much longer as there are only 4 lobes. UZFE Toyota V8's have 2 seperate distributors and 2 coils, one off each head.

This is exactly why. They were 'back in the day.' The Mallory "rev pol" was the same deal. I forget exactly how that worked I think it was a special coil
