It’s been a while since I’ve posted but always thankful for this community! I noticed a substantial amount of fluid coming from the bell housing of my car. (See attached photo) The quick specs of the build are:

Cheetah reverse manual valve body
Frank lupo 9.5” converter

I’d have to lookup other details but basically what I’m asking is where would be the first place to start looking for this leak?

The car has overheated one time a couple years ago and it may have possibly had an impact on this? Also it’s very slow to get moving until the fluid gets hot (but fluid level is ok). Thanks for any and all input!

First thing to do is determine if its trans fluid or engine oil.
Engine oil can come from rear main, cam plug or pan gasket. Trans fluid would likely be input shaft seal or vent. Usually wont come out of the vent unless its over full.

It does look dark like engine oil from the photo. It could also run from the oil pressure sender, distributor seal, or even valve covers if it's oil.

Thank you for replying. I did check the fluid and it’s bright red so I’m certain it’s the transmission. Is it common for shaft seals to leak? Any insight to what may provoke them to leaking? The car isn’t run that hard believe it or not.

Input shaft leaking is not that uncommon. It happens with age but if its a fairly fresh rebuild it may have been damaged when installed. Worn bushing in the pump that supports the converter snout will cause seal to leak. This should be replaced with a rebuild but not everyone replaces bushings when rebuilding.
Sometimes they can leak if the converter snout has a wear groove. Obviously wont be your problem with a new converter. Another possible source is pump bolt seals but these usually dont leak in my experience.

I would check out the dipstick tube seal/o'ring.
