I thought I would start a new post rather than drag a parts wanted ad down. 383 and 440 A-bodies, I know that 383 A’s had chrome covers but should have the same plug wire routing. With the manifolds exiting between the third and fourth cylinder on each bank, the rear plug wire on both banks would go along the top of the valve cover and come in from the rear. On the passenger side VC, is there not a clip for the plug wire to clip into, or does it go into the alternator wiring bendy loom?

I can't ck my car for you, its a few hours away now. I forgot how I ran them under, I beleive I bought the period correct bracket near the alternator from Stephens Performance?
But I have this pic of a Concourse grade 69 Dart seen at Ohio.
Hope it helps.

Go to the gts registry website and look at the reference pics, that will answer all your questions...

There are pictures on there, but some have clips on both valve covers, some are run underneath but i’m not sure how they get around the manifold outlet, some are obviously wrong. Looking for some correct information, thanks.

To my knowledge both 383 and 440 were routed the same with a path on the passenger side cover and bracket on the rear manifold bolt location.

I honestly don't remember but here are pics of the engine from 69 GTS. You can see the drivers side bracket at the back of the head but I didn't take a good picture of the passenger side. It has since been in a fire and I yanked the engine out so I can take pictures the next time I am at the shop.

The B-body HP driver’s side manifold dumps right at the back so all of the plug wires go underneath from the front, so the 383/440 B-body HP (and the reproduction) valve covers would only have plug wire provisions on the passenger side. The low performance big block B bodies have a different set of manifolds where the driver’s side has plug wire clips. I would just like to know how the big block A-bodies are different. Does anybody have an unrestored car they could share with me?

I bought the car in 1978 and am the second owner. The valve covers are the originals I managed to hang onto over the dozens of engine changes I did over the years. This is the latest pic after I pulled it out of the engine bay after the fire...

So, if I’m thinking correctly, to make a big block A-body set of valve covers you could take a B-body HP passenger VC and a B-body 2-barrel driver’s side VC... except for the chrome, of course.

Just like the 383 cars. Only the 440 Rocker covers are Painted.

383 shown here. They are the same only the rocker covers are different.

If it has that holder on the rear then yes. Covers were identical except chrome and paint.
