Dropping 318 LA engine in 62 B body

-
It might work. 62 didn't come with a LA. 273's weren't out until 64. Only Poly 318's in the 62 and 63 cars.

The poly mounts should bolt right to a 318. I pulled a poly out of a 64 Belvedere wagon to put in a 440, but can't remember if I saved the mounts? I'll try to look tomorrow.

62-5 B body K is same basically, I think.
62 k-frame is either a slant 6 k or a V8 k.
One year only V8 k-frame in 62 used for both small block poly 318 or big block.
Metal mount on k-frame is the same for sb and bb, engine mount is different.

I pulled the poly out of my 62 and kept the 2 piece metal mounts, but I don't believe I kept the rubber mounts.
I know the rubber mounts are same up to 64.

So droppng the LA 318 on this 62 K which I have, do i need the metal brackets off a 318 poly or 273 or even LA318???

You need 62 318 poly brackets.
As stated the 62 B frame and mounts are different than 63-5

I got the K from a guy that has had lots of early B cars, but my K is not like that one. He might has got it out of a 62 but that does not mean it was oem 62! Anyway, I have what I guess is a 63-5 K and that is what is want to drip the LA 318 on.

I need the steel brackets if anyone finds some they can let go of.

IIRC, you need the engine brackets off the poly 318 so they fit the rubber mounts that fit the K-member. I think you have to modify the engine bracket ears to fit a 273. The span between the engine block bosses are the same, but, even though they use 3 ears on the block, I think they use a different 3 between the poly 318 and a 273. It's a matter of cutting off an ear on the bracket and welding it in the correct spot for the other engine boss. It's a similar mod you need to make to swap in an LA 318, 340, or 360 in place of a 273.

^^^^^Yep I have made the little mods for 318 and 360 for the block many times years ago. . I just want it to all bolt to the K at that fateful moment.

My 62 k and the mounts removed from the k-frame and 318 poly, minus the rubber mounts.

318 poly mounts on a 64 b-body.
Don't buy the repop rubber mounts, they suck and will give your car a vibration that will drive you nuts.
Nos mounts, hard to find, poly mounts suck.
I put my old mounts back in and no issues since.

My 62 will have a 63-5 v8 K member and a 318 LA motor not a poly.
I had traded for a 64 more door Belvedere for the good running engine but the car had new floor pans and was so solid I decided to keep it all together and finish it and drop my LA SB in my 62 Dart B body.
My only A body now is the 62 Lancer the wife claims and it will be finished up this winter sometime, with a slant back in, floor shift, and a color change.

I looked in my stash to see if I had the mounts off my old 64 Belvedere wagon poly motor, and couldn't find them. I must have sold them at a swap meet or gave them to a local guy with a 64 more door Belvedere. Sorry I couldn't help. :(
