46re

I have an opportunity to purchase one. It's got a blown band which took out the valve body, plus it is a 4X4 version.Question is where to find a 2wd output shaft and housing? Am told the o/d unit is intact. Will be looking at it next Sunday.

My question would be how to control it in a "simple" way. With that "E" on the end, that brings up some challenges. Maybe @TrailBeast will chime in and share what he did. But he's a genius. I'd never be able to figure all that out. You ain't stupid like me so maybe you can.

Changing a 4x4 RE to run in a non computer 4x2 and then having to buy the computer to control it would be a major expensive pain in the ***.
IMO a 42 or 46 RH with hydraulic shift controls would be WAY simpler and WAY cheaper.
Been running a Transgo stage 2 kitted 42RH in my Dart behind a mild built 5.9 for 5-6 years without a single glitch.
I designed and built the speed adjustable automatic shifting OD and converter lockup sytem.
The entire trans, converter, 7290 yoke, shift kit, OD and lockup kit accessories ended up around $500
Trans, converter, 7290 yoke and electrical connector all came out of a 95 Dakota 5.2 truck.
I currently run 3.55 rear gears for around town and Runs 2,500 rpm at 80mph in OD and converter lockup.
Right at 25 mpg on the hiway.
