I'm in the process of cheaply restoring this Duster instrument cluster, and was initially super pleased with how Rustoleum chrome spray paint turned out. Then I touched it. All over the net I now see this stuff comes off super easy. Any pointers from folks that have tried it?

I spent wasted weeks on it. Gave up and bought new from Classic Industries. Or you can have it re-chromed. Chrome spray looks okay if you never touch it which is impossible.

Don't bother. Without protection (clear coat) they all rub off or tarnish. The problem with the clear coat is that it ruins the "chrome" look.

The whole cluster face is available on line? Can you please give me a link? All I can find is the wood grain decal.

you know, it's a nice car.. this mini-fail might be a good cautionary lesson about trying to cheap out on some processes... slow down and do some research, you'll save yourself aggravation and money in the long run
there are some great people on here with a wealth of knowledge who are all willing to try to help, and for the most part.. there are no stupid questions

Someone on here cured the chrome paint at 160 F I think and it solved the slow drying problem.

Doesn't plastic get soft at 160 degrees??

I am pretty sure his number was 160 F for 30 min. I will look for the thread. I wouldn’t think the dash would soften that low. Probably gets that hot in the car with the windows up on a sunny day, but that is just speculation on my part.

Found the thread it is “Cluster Restoration “ by Sig 440. He actually used 80 C which is 176 F.

I've used the Xynolite chrome paint with good luck. It's more of a satin finish than a mirror finish though.
