Now this is camping

Shelter halves in San Diego/Camp Pendleton boot camp, never used them after that except one time when it was raining buckets in ITS (Infantry Training School) in Camp Lejeune. Went to Philippines for 18 months of Barracks duty and it rained so much there we just covered ourselves with a pancho and slept in the mud when on patrols. No use trying to stay dry in an inch an hour rain for 12 hours straight. Lucky for me was the schedule: A week on guard duty and a week in the rear with the gear! When we were doing field ops every other month, I just stuck my head in an MRE sleeve so the rain wouldnt land on my face. Next night all the NCO's took the sleeves for themselves.
