"Police grappler device"

Interesting.

Wraps around the axle?

Like the background music.

Use it every chase. That is a long time coming and it prevents the suspect from rolling from a pit maneuver. Where did the equipped vehicle come from...onsite? Looks a little gangly to be carting around.

That truck they grabbed put in 4 wheel low would just drag that suburban....

The thug should just slam on his brakes (locking his rear tires) letting the police car ram into him. Then after the collision simply drive away. Since the thugs tires won't be spinning fast when he drives off the straps shouldn't get tangled in the tires???

Limited skip and 4wd would probably stop the car dead,as long as straps held up. There was a chase in the city last week, an innocent woman lost her life in the collision that ended the chase. Perhaps this will save innocent people from injury and death.

Looks good on paper
2 concerns though
1 what if they miss and run it over themselves?

2 what if the person fleeing isn't a trained driver, who is expecting this?
I mean what would happen to you if one wheel would unexpectedly lock up...sharp left hand turn ?

Going fast enough, I could see this potentially flipping a vehicle

They had a similar gizmo in a 1950's movie "Thunder Road".
That one clamped on the rear bumper of a 1950 Ford, and tore the bumper off.
Moonshiner got away .!

What happens when it only catches 1 wheel ?
My sentiment exactly
But that's what it does every time, it doesn't look to be designed to catch both wheels...which is why I wondered what would happen if that wasn't a trained driver in there

i'm still leaning toward a harpoon

The pit maneuver LAPD and CHP uses is much more dangerous than this contraption. This will just get tangled up in the tire, there is little possibility that the patrol vehicle will run this over as its in a suspension frame. Now I see the vid that shows it folded up, not much more than a brush guard. Book 'em Dano!
