Hey there … I'm swapping out my pimpn' wheels and tires for more of a stock look with either Cragar slots or black steelies … what tires (brand and size) do you all recommend?

There isn’t really a lot of choices for 14” or 15” tires. I have BF Goodrich radial there ok. Cooper cobra are popular also. Sweet dart.

Cragar s/s wheels seem go well period correct and never go out style. I have 14x6 on the front,15x7 on the rear, 5 on 4 bolt pattern Summit carries them.

I think one reason I like the steelies so much is when painted black, they give the illusion of larger, fatter tires.

I like steelies, crager ss, or slots. They all have that old school look! 65'
 
It all depends on the look you are going for, and how much you have to spend.

Also there might be suspension mods, brakes etc that might prevent you from going to a 14 inch wheels.

Find out you bolt pattern 5x4 or 5x4.5. more choices in the 5x4.5.

Also more choices in 15" and up.

If you know that your current tire wheel combo fits without rubbing use that as a baseline.

There are tire size calculaters online that will let you compare your current size to others

watch out how a wheel is measured for backspace, from lip of rim or from flat of rim, (where a weight would sit)

If you can try a wheel tire combo on, that would be best bet.

see if anyone you know has a look you like and if they will work with you, try one on for size!
 
215-60 front, up to 255-60 for the rear, wheels have a 4.5" offset. BUT check your car for fit first. Each car can be different.

You can't go wrong with steelies or Cragars, both look sharp and never go out of style. I would suggest going with the 15" version, it gives you more and better tire choices and will clear larger brakes if you decide to go that route. You can get either one in SBP or BBP. Here's my 66 with steelies and Cobras. 245/60 on the back, 216/65 on the front. Wheels are from Wheel Vintique, tires and wheels came from Summit.

I’ve never ever understood the appeal of those giant twenty inch wheels on older cars that weren’t designed for them. They make the car look ridiculous. It’s a very wise move removing them from an otherwise great looking car. Your car would thank you if it could.
 
Before you do anything, find out what you have. Bolt circle? Spacers? Check front and back. Then look at 15 or 16 in tires for availability. Good luck.

Depends on the car, the build, the use, the tire on that wheel, etc.

On a 67-69 dart I would not go 20" either but to blancket all cars older cars like that, no.

Also, while maybe 20's aren't he ideal look for many, i've had classic cars come with 13's and 14's. Going up some from there with a decent aspect ratio yields a nice look and good function.

I agree, I've seen some really nice old mopars with 20s' but to make it look right, takes some serious forethought and design work. They need to be tucked under pretty tight and that's not easy especially up front. They are not everuone's cup o' tea but they can look good. The trick is not making the car look like it's a toy. MuscleRodShop in South TX does some very nice work. I got to see a charger they did sa a widebody before it was public. Stunning work they did and it looks "right". That car is six inches wider and 3 inches shorter that it started out and has a full chassis, and viper motor.

While I agree it can work on some older cars I’ll stand by my opinion for most. Cars are designed with a given wheel size in mind. The size of the wheel wells is meant to complement and work with that wheel. Put a twenty inch wheel on a car designed for fourteen or fifteen and it usually doesn’t work out any better than it did for Jenee’s car. Ride height is also messed up by twenty inch wheels and if something isn’t done to compensate as described in Cuda416’s post above the poor car ends up looking like it’s ready to go off-roading. No thanks. Of course this is just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions.

That car will look 100 times better with some old-school wheels on it

I am a big fan of the slotted mags, and US indy still makes them in small bolt pattern

I dont think steelies would look good with the two tone paint job
