Getting ready to PRIME my 72 dart. Read where a lvlp spray gun is best for shop compressors(mine is a 30 gal ). I plan on doing small areas at a time(one fender etc.) Anyone use these? any thoughts ideas will be helpful. I do not have a spray gun yet(couldnt buy one in my area of calif.)

I am doing the same. These do well, operating at only about 40psi. Bought mine through Eastwood, about $150. Go for it!

I have a couple of $29.00 guns that work very well with primers and sealers. You don't need anything special...should last you a lifetime.

Pro work? Another story.

I got mine at swap meets but fleabay and Amazon will beat catalog
prices.

Northern Tool and Harbor Freight have the HVLP guns available too. From inexpensive, good, and better to work with your budget.

I've got a good friend who swears by his lvlp gun. I believe he got it from Eastwood. The couple of cars he's painted that I've seen turned out very well and he has a pretty small compressor. I can't remember the size though.

Need a good size air compressor for doing body and paint work, no shortcuts there. 5hp electric motor with a 5hp 2stage pump, 60 gallon tank minimum.

Anything smaller and the troubles start compounding. Heat, moisture coimg through the lines, not keeping up . . .

I sprayed my primer base and clear with a 21 gal 2.5 hp harbor freight compressor and one of their purple (20 dollarish) hvlp guns they had them on sale for 14 or so and I bought 3 of them one for each step. It may not be the best or the easiest but on a budget it does work.

I agree but it is doable. Just gotta take your time and not out spray the compressor. I did one section at a time if the compressor kicked on during that section I would finish it and wait for it to cut off before going to the next section. It is difficult but not impossible.

Turned out good, nice job!

This was painted with a cheap harbor freight paint gun. With cheap Summit single stage paint.

I just bought one of the purple HVLP guns from Horrible Freight. I used it the other day to repaint the battery tray on my Challenger....and it worked like a champ! I blasted the tray, cleaned it, and then shot it with epoxy primer. Let it dry overnight, and then shot 2 coats of FC7 urethane on it. I cleaned the gun real good between paint types and coats, and was impressed at how well the cheapie gun worked. It has a 1.4 tip, which is good for sealer, most single stage, and base/clear paint.

My stuff is all packed away for awhile so I recently picked up a Harbor F. for $14.99 to do my intake and valve covers. Agreed worked great.

I have used the same siphon feed gun for 20 years. It finally started giving me fits so, I also am using the purple Harbor Frieght hvlp gun. I think it works really nice and, its cheap enough if it starts acting up i can toss it in the trash and, move on. I hear of a lot of people who use them once and, throw them away becsuse they are so cheap, they dont even bother cleaning them.

It's the cleaning after that's important. The aluminium cups are super easy to clean than the plastic cups. It's the spray head you have to flush out good. When done I pour a little clean thinner in it and soak nozzle in it.
