To remove the hood hinges from a 72 Dart, looks like the only thing holding it on, is that little washer like clip? I think i can remove the door, and gain access to the clip. Then will the hinge just slide off of that pin? These hinges dont work very well. Going a different route with a hood. Maybe F Glass

Yep, once you pop the star washer clip off, the hinges slide right off. For my sons car I drilled thru holes with #40 drill bits on the pins, and reinstalled hinges with thin washers and cotter pins thru the holes and bent over to hold the washers and hinge arms in place. If those star washer clips pop off and the hinges pop off the pins, the hood will **** up up the body

Thats a good idea.

If the hood is closed the springs ARE under tension. Take the hood off the car first, then remove the hinges from the body. The hinges will be in the up position no tension. They install to the body easiest in the up position where theres no tension on the springs.

So I have it backwards? Been a couple years sense I've mess with an A body hood. B and E are totally different

I have had 68-69 chargers too. B bodies the long coiled heavy duty screen door looking hood springs are pulled under tension when the hood is closed, I presume E body is the same.

Well believe it or not, I was able remove the washer/retainers from the top, with the hood off. I used several different screwdrivers, a small flashlite, and small vise grips, to subdue and remove the little rascals. There are 2 per side. Accomplished this with a minimal amount of blood loss. LOL. I'll go into battle with the drivers side on Sat. Here's a picture of the offenders, and their beat up companions. :drama: Looks like these are fairly new ones. Old rusty ones may be more difficult to extract.

I couldn't even get the hood hinges to fold when I took the hood off of my 75 Duster. I even hung on them with my fat *** and they still wouldn't close

I have a '71 Demon. Can the hood hinges be removed using this same procedure? I was under the impression the fenders and grill had to be removed to access the hinges.

Should be able to feed the hinges out of the top. If not take them out from the bottom. Doors dont have to come off for this. Remove your front wheels, and unbolt and take the inner fender shields out. Theres s lot of room going in from the wheel opening.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't looked to hard in there for the inner fender shields. More investigation required.

The mounting bolts and screws will be damn near completely buried in fenderwell undercoating.

Right, mine were buried in undercoating, which was in very good shape, so I didn't want to remove the inner fender shields. Passenger side was done by putting my hand and arm in thru the hinge hole on top. (Hood is off car) Then using a screwdriver, and needle nose vice grips, I was able to work the 2 washers off the pins. Then the hinge will slide off easily. Use a small flashlight to see the washer / retainer. The hard part is getting the retainers off the pins. It's easy from there.

Should be able to. Remove the hood, then shine a small flashlight in there and spot the retainers. On the driver side I did remove the door, leaving the door hinges bolted to the body. This worked good too, but it does take some time. Removing the door improves access to the retainers.
