You are exactly right. All of the liberal tree huggers that are crooning over all electric cars because they emit ZERO carbon forget (or more likely refuse to accept) that the factory where the car was made consumes MASSIVE amounts of fossil fuel energy as do all the plants that provide parts, all the employees at said plant drive to work in their fossil fuel cars, and then, like you said, the charging stations are likely powered by fossil fuel. Then, let's not forget disposal of the batteries when they go bad. These are the same tree huggers that will not allow the forests in California to be cleaned up of the tinder box dead trees on the ground. Gee, I wonder why there are so many forest fires out there?
Forget about the green side of electric and focus on the power they produce .
I will always have a carbon burning rumbling V8 Mopar but it would be cool to have a 72 Colt or 84 Rampage with one of those electric motors !

I’ve looked into the whole electric car green thing. I can tell you right now based on current battery technology and where and how they have to source the materials for lithium cobalt batteries etc the end result of an electric car is far from green. The carbon foot print of an electric car through manufacturing and recharging off of fossil fuel plants is definitely higher than efficient combustion engines. Now if battery technology was much more advanced and was solid state derived not using rare earth minerals to manufacture them things would be different. It’s funny that many environmentalists and people that insist going green push for electric. However, where our current technology sits this is really doing nothing for the CO2 emissions. It makes me laugh.

Oh and yes my buddy after high school had a mint conquest tsi. That thing was deceptively fast and handled surprisingly well. It was real sweet.
That 2 motor tesla model 3 can go 350 miles on a charge and run the lights and A/C.
That's about the same range as most of my gas powered cars and trucks.
...but the tesla can do an 11.5 second 1/4 mile as well.
It's ridiculously quick. Ferrari quick!
(...and yes, I understand the effective range is 175 in order to get back home to charge, but they do have an extra overnight 110V portable charging cable.)

We can debate all the 'facts' about electric vehicles all day long. As with most debates, you can paint it anyway you want. But what lies at the bottom of it all is simple - an electric vehicle has absolutely no soul.
An 11 second 426 Hemi powered A body? That's Jimi Hendrix. An 11 second Tesla? That's your 17 year old neighbor on an $89 Casio keyboard from WalMart.

All of the above statements are accurate. However , the fact is that consumers are trending towards electric and that is where the market will go . Probably long before any law that Cali makes goes into effect.
Besides...Electric cars have less components so they will be cheaper to make.
The law is a moot point. Its like saying we will outlaw landline telephone by 2050 . They will be long gone before then.
How many stage coaches are made each year ? There will still be a few specialty cars but 99% will be electric or other type of drive.

Consumers are trending toward electric vehicles for the all usual reasons:
1) They're stupid
2) They're sheep who are led by the media
3) They conveniently focus on the facts they find appealing and ignore the facts they find unattractive.
You correct in noting that by the time 2050 is here, the course of transportation will already have been determined. The laws are just one of several tools used to reach certain goals.
One thing is for sure....I don't see the human race getting any smarter....at least not in the '1st world' countries. For every kid in the USA or Canada or England, there are 5 Asian kids just waiting to devour them.
