I picked up a Sears Automotive Engine Analyzer 161.2182. This is the less common one with two gauges. There is no manual. I have been able to figure out how to use it with one exception.

It comes with a shunt that fits between the battery terminal and the battery cable.
I assume this is for testing the alternator. Does anyone know how to use this, or have a copy of the manual with the instructions for this?

Thanks Slant Six

I should have a manual. PM me I can scan it. The shunt goes on the pos side of the main wire being tested then the other end to the other side of the shunt. Let me see if I can find a pic.

Same as the lower pic.

The shunt device should have a switch--a big knife switch right on the shunt. This is to bypass it for starting. Then it simply becomes an ammeter to monitor charging function

Here is a download for one model

On the model shown below the "starter switch" is a larger shunt so the meter can also measure starter current. This is not true of all models, they vary. Some, the switch is a shorting switch for starting, and does not measure starter current. The ammeter on those is only for charging systems.
