Guys I need help here. Ive been looking every where for a sure grip for my 65 dart. Mine is the 7 .25 in a 279 gear i think. There has to be a sure grip somewhere out there that will just bolt right up into my car. A 3.23 would be nice but ill settle for the 2.79 gear as long as it a SG. PLEASE HELP! Im so desperate Im ready to buy a honda civic!:BangHead:

All I can say is, GOOD LUCK! They are few and far between......because 1) there weren't "too many" made right off the rip 2) those that are still around are very more than likely worn out and 3) no one and I mean NO ONE makes service parts for them.

So......GOOD LUCK!

If you find one worn out can they be rebuilt, it angers me that no one makes parts for the 65 abody. Its like that year was the plague!

Well, then you tell ME where to get parts to rebuild one, because nobody makes them.

If it were me, I’d be on the hunt for an A Body 8.75 with SBP axles to match your front brakes. 8.75 pigs with a Sure grip are so much more available than a SG for a 7.25 and parts are Readily available for just about anything you need for an 8.75.

They can be had every now and then. But they go for $275.00:- $350.00. Unless your restoring one, IMO not worth it.

Yup, but even THEN you don't know if it's gonna be good. And honestly, if one is good, how good can it be for how long? When was the last time they made them new? Almost 50 years ago? I'd LOVE to find one for Vixen, but I ain't even lookin. lol

I tell you what I have thought about. Looking into modifying one of those drop in lockers for the open carrier. There HAS to be an application out there that's close enough to modify and make work......at least "you'd think".

Is there anything that will fit under there without alot of moding?

Only problem is I know nothing about rear end swaps. I would nt know what 8.75 would go under a 65 abody and then id have to shorten the drive shaft.

Yes a A body 8.75 will fit right under your car. It will have the same wheel bolt circle. Yes you will have to shorten your drive shaft But that isn’t that big a deal.

Oh were you talking about the WHOLE rear end or just the carrier assembly? I assumed you were talking about the carrier assembly.

TO echo Roy's answer, yes, the 8 3/4 A body rear will bolt in. You will have to shorten the drive shaft. Also, the later 8 1/4 rear end is a bolt in swap. Drive shortening also required. BUT the other thing there is, with the 8 1/4 you have the 4.5" bolt pattern instead of the 4". So you have to make the decision if you want to run two bolt pattern wheels, change the rear to 4" or change the front to 4.5".

You knew nothing about anything until you started learning, right?

I am a fan of the 7 1/4, BUT, as stated there is no supply of parts to repair/rebuild them. I ran 7 1/4 SG in my race cars for years, without problems.
I still have one 7 1/4 SG rear that I am rebuilding, with almost all new parts. The only parts not new are the spider gear shafts, and the housing, and gear/sg case. It only took me about three years of searching to find all the parts. Never did find SG clutches, but had one set left on my shelf. I have about $500 in parts in it. The only reason to spend that kind of money on a 7 1/4 is for a "correct" restoration.

PS: This rear was a 5.13, now 3.91

FWIW, I have a NOS set of 7.25 clutches that I decided not to use and will sell. Won't be cheap but I won't making any money either.

I think I have something, lemmee go look

Yes, I have a low-mileage, small axle-tube, 7.25/2.7x gear/suregrip, complete take out from a 68 Barracuda. I purchased this car in 1978, and the car had been sitting already for a long time, due to a broken RF 9" spindle. The mileage was, IIRC,either in the 30,000s or in the 50,000s.
The car then sat until 1998 when I began converting it to a Formula S.
The rear then sat outside on a rack I built for rear ends, from 98 until today.
I never drove that car with that rear in it.
