1966 Plymouth Valiant 225ci, AT PS.
my dumb dirtyword PS pump decided that i needed more "physical exercise", so it went bad and starting leaking such that it was empty in 10 mins or so.
so looking/searching for a PS pump ready to go and give me some "relief" (at 79 i really do not need extra physical exercise!).
located near Jacksonville Fl.
stay safe
thanks

Ah yours has the hugh return line. I sold one on here not to long ago. I’ll have to see if I have another one.

I have a ‘66 273 pump on mine I won’t be using if it is of any use to you. I’ll see if I can take a couple pics this evening.

If worse comes to worse, one can adapt the large return line on the steering to a pump with a small return line; see photo (like a previous owner did to my '65 Barracuda). I am not recommending this, but it seems to work. The return line is not under a lot of pressure. I installed an inline filter last time I replaced a return line.

Sounds like the pump is still working, right? Just leaking? Why not just get a seal kit?

correct, the dirtyword is still working.... just leaking.... but i ain't in no way able (mentally) to rebuild it. 30 years ago i would have hopped right on it, but now i am doing GREAT not forgetting where i live!! hee hee. what would you suggest? anyone in mind, etc? stay safe thanks

Pretty sure mine is a federal pump like yours and it will work if you swap the brackets and pulley. I’m swapping a Magnum 5.9 in mine so I have no use for it.

I didn't mean to rebuild it, just reseal it. I assumed that if you were able to swap one out, that a reseal job would be in your wheelhouse also. If it's just the "O" ring on the reservoir, that only takes a few minutes to change. If it's the shaft seal, it would take a special puller so you don't bend the pulley. A cheap screw thread slide hammer type dent puller can be used to remove the seal, or, careful use of an awl or small screwdriver. Just thought it would save you some time and money.

thanks. i will try that (now i have to remove it from the engine). IF it was leaking from the seal(s) could i tell just by looking?? it does (or did) was leaking enough to see. there are kits available so that could work. stay safe. thanks

I would advise you clean it up good, refill it run it and find exactly where it is leaking first before you remove it. I’ll see if I have one tomorrow when I’m at my shop.

just did. it is leaking from the "front pulley".... and now i am not certain that it is a "type 96" because it has a hexagon biggie nut on the pulley. hee hee hee>>> ole old way of stopping leaks in radiators led me to think (think only!!) of putting BLACK PEPPER in it to stop the leak!!! yep. but that is around a dumb seal. stay safe. thanks

If your pump has a solid shaft, you'll want to remove the reservoir and replace the shaft seal first because you'll need to press that pulley back on. You can do it with a vice if you have one big enough. Otherwise, a press is the easiest. Then install the reservoir with a new "O" ring. You don't want to press the pulley on with the reservoir still on the back because you might deform it. If you have a threaded shaft, you can use a bolt to install the pulley.

The pump I have is the same, the V8 bracket just connects to the 2 side bolts and the back is unused. It has the big return and the high pressure hose connects the same. Looks like the pulley is a bigger diameter but that can easily be swapped out if needed. I’m just south of you in New Smyrna Beach. I think it would fit in a priority mail flat rate box. If it isn’t leaking I’d be happy to send it to you for shipping cost.
