From the Trick Flow thread, I found a "mentor" to me from my teens! Made contact with him and emailed - been years and years, didn't even know if he was alive. He emailed me pictures of his car the car this morning. He still has it! In the late 80's I helped with this car a little in the shop. It ran 9.20's @ 150 mph with a stock stroke 440/906 cast heads. Palmer specialties was his head porter, and i went to school with his son and beat his z28 with my Demon after school... LOL. Anyways, here is the car :)

This guy actually helped me pick out my first cam, explained more about cams to me, and I bought it from his store. Wow, just a teener I was, and the cam went in my 318 :) 318WILLRUN !!

looking at the car, i suddenly feel like I should have a '72 Demon outside, I should be 35 lbs lighter, and not a dime in my pocket!.... Wait, how come only the dime showed up??? LOL
sounds like we at leas have the same budget

Honestly, about 5 miles from his shop was a junkyard. I literally shopped there to build my hot rods. No, I'm not joking one bit. 5 dollar TQ off a 440, cast intake off a maxi van, better flowing exhaust manifolds, 25 dollar 360, 727 from a truck, rear end, literally all from the scrap yard on a 2 dollar budget. When you are broke, you are forced to think... LOL

Those FMJ cars look cool all chassis'd out.

Cool! Looking at the car, now I see how he could run 9.20's with an iron head 440...looks like tube chassis and SUPER light weight, makes sense.

So I'll put a plug in for him... He is still employed at Coan Engineering, the place he went to after he sold his store when I last knew of him in '92. Coan is reputable and worth checking into for converter/tranny needs. He told me he has been retired from racing, but I'm glad he is still doing what he enjoys and still has the car.

I used to shop the pick and pulls for rear tires.....light 65 with a 340 and 3.55 gears = smoke.
