Hey all, I got to wondering recently about the 270 badges on the C-pillars of my '63 Dart. I cleaned and painted mine to what I thought was more or less original and also to my own taste/preference but it occurred to me I've never seen another set that were black like I did mine.

Is this because most all of them out there are old and just wore away over time and it's not commonplace to mess with them or did these badges just come new in the off white color and the only black would be in the middle of the little tristar?

I'm pretty content with how I painted em but curiosity is driving me all over the internet looking for old photos to find out but I'm coming up with no answers.

  • I bought a NOS one still boxed with styrofoam pads on the pins recently and it was exactly like pictured by Gage Zamrzla. I also bought a used one and where the black is was gold color (now it’s black)

I think the gold was for the '64 Golden Anniversary edition.

I'm not sure about the original color, but it look like a good job to me.
Thanks man, if anyone is interested in trying to do the same with theirs I just taped the edges off, wiped a light amount of acetone and water to get all the crud off, laid two light coats of the same flat black spray paint I used for my wheels and lightly sanded off the letters with really high grit sandpaper wrapped in a tiny flat level to avoid the back followed by a light, quick clear coat the next day.

Great to learn, thanks man!
