While going through some parts in storage, I found the flip top gaS cap adapter for the early A. Awhile back a member was making adapters for both later A’s and then later for the early A’s. I bought one that I was going to use on my 65 GT convertible (which is long gone). Has anyone who owns an early A (63-66) installed one? Do you have any pics of it installed. The only pic I’ve seen is a members 65 orange convert with a black tail stripe (sorry, I don’t remember the member’s name).

One of our members makes adapters to install them. Use the search function and you should find it.

I had to do the quarter panels on my 66 cuda, used a 68 cuda quarter w flip top gas filler (recessed into the quarter panel) and grafted it onto the 66 quarter. Looks factory and no one has ever noticed. Sorry no pic someday maybe I will get a phone.

Damraider makes the adapters, I'm sure he will have pics. I got one of his billet caps for an early A, looks nice.

There were plenty of hits doing a search but found just the one pic with the orange 65 Dart I mentioned. Would like to see what other early A’s look like with a flip top before committing to use the one I have on my wagon

No questions about the fit - not worried about fit; mine looks to fit fine. Just looking for pics of any other early A’s with the conversion

Here you go...

Don,
Jake and I did it with a cut out from a 68 qtr. Not the adapter look your looking for pics of, but like @66jim says - looks factory. We should have cut it in up higher on the qtr , as opposed to the original 65 location.

I would guess you cut the original filler tube and connected the tube with a hose like the 66/67 Charger. Any pics of that?

That does look like a factory install. I have a pair of gas cap recessed panels - one from a 71 Charllenger and one from a 69 Charger. I’d hate to start modifying the quarter on the wagon as I’m within a couple of days for paint!

Just out of curiosity did the flip cap seal the original filler tube?

It does pretty ok. Once in a great while he'll get a little bit of a splash leak, but nowhere as bad as we've all seen the original type cap leak. It may also be the not to great of quality seal on the repopped flip top.

The car has been together for 6 years and he drives the snot out of it - no noticeable gas stains on the qtr.

it will need modification. i haven't done that yet. The filler cap is a sealed unit (there is a vented version) so i'll also add a breather pipe with a roll over valve to vent under the car.

Looks like neither of these recessed panels I have are going to have the right contour to graft to the wagon’s quarter panel contour. Guess if i decide to add the flip cap, i can use the adapter I have and could back to stock later.

On a different note, I’d love to find one of those Aussie gas guards - maybe I could fabricate one and paint it body color. I believe they were originally made in stainless steel.
