Epoxy or Urethane High Build... what's next for me?

-
I know you had to put in a lot of extra work to get to where you are now, but in the long run.....you won't regret it! Keep up the good work.

Yep I agree! Sometimes that extra step is the difference between a life long paint job and having to start over in 3 years!

Looks awesome, what brand of paint gun are you using?
Thanks... I'm honestly not sure what brand my spray guns are, but I can tell you that they will be replaced before I spray anything again. They are an older, cheap set that I've had for years. The 1.4 nozzle worked fine for the Epoxy, but my 1.7 was too small for the high-build I sprayed later. Had some wasted material and poor coverage due it getting plugged up.. (which sucked to clean out). I'll probably buy a cheap (Northern Tool) gun with a 2.5 tip for the future high-build primer work. For the spraying sealer and base/clear later, I'm looking at the options from Devilbis.

Thanks guys. Here's a few pics of the shell that I sprayed this AM. Ran out of epoxy just before getting a 2nd coat on the front fender wells, but I'll just coat them later when it's time for sealing. Had to get up at 4:30 the AM to get the shell painted before work. No time later today as we're heading out camping and didn't want it to start flash-rust. Got a few bugs in it (damn mosquitoes)... but they'll sand out. :)

I bought a Devilbiss Tekna Prolite gun to do finish work with. I bought it on the recommendation of another member here, and it is an excellent gun! It makes me look like I almost know what I'm doing! LOL. I think it is the 703556 version that I got. I got 3 different tips and 2 different caps. Watch, and they will go on sale every now and then. I bought mine off Amazon for $440ish. I sprayed SPI epoxy primer mixed as sealer a few weeks ago, and it layed it down great.

It's been a while sense I provide an update... unfortunately, it's not a good one. A Derecho with 110mph winds came through our state (Iowa) this summer and destroyed my shop and did some pretty significant damage to the Demon. It's repairable, but is sure a set back. Looking like it will be June/July before my new shop is up and ready to use. With the chassis in storage until then, I hope to make some progress on the 4-speed rebuild and maybe start the 408 build as well. Until then... I'll be back to this post later on.

PS - Dad's 1970 Mach 1 you see in the pics was also damaged... but also repairable. (it was moved into my shop only 2 days before the storm :(

Wow! That sucks! Makes me glad I only have to worry about earthquakes.

I hope that the damage was limited to property and that no family or friends got hurt.

Good luck on the rebuild!

Hope your family, friends and neighbors all made it thru that ok! The damage will be very fixable. 2004 was a rough year here in the south for hurricanes, and being a lineman for a power company...I was at work about more than I was home. I didn't get home in time to get one of my cars moved before the remnants of Hurricane Ivan came thru western NC, and Ivan dropped a huge pine tree on our house and 3 vehicles. My 71 Challenger got hammered pretty hard, but I was able to fix it back even better. I know you can do the same with your Demon. It took me a few years to be able to sleep at night if it was raining or the wind was blowing, but that went away eventually. Hang in there.....life will get back to normal, and you'll get everything done. :)

Dang! Sucks to hear about the shop and cars! We were at my wife’s brothers place in Kalona when that storm came through. Wasn’t just too terribly bad there, lots of trees down, a few houses damaged, etc. Not near as bad as other areas of the state got it. We were only out of power for 5 or 6 hours

Just keep in mind that even though 2k and high-build primer sealers are catylized, they still shrink significantly over the years. My point is that while they are very good and have their place, using less(aka a thinner mil thickness) is always better. In other words, get your sheet metal as straight as you can, so you don't need too much product to get your panels "flat".

Ok no! That sucks im sorry that happened to you. I'm glad you and family are safe tho!
