I would like to change my 70 duster from a 5 on 4 to a 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern, Does anyone know where I might get stock length rear axles for an A body 8 3/4 rear end that are 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern ?

Thanks

I have the Moser axles any of the rear axle vendors will have a set

i've used moser and dr.diff axles over the years to do the conversion. both quality parts that fit great. didn't have to remove the button in the center section with either when using the green bearings either.. yukon not too sure about. may have to remove that thing.

Just have your exhisting ones drilled for the 4.5" pattern if its a street car.

I had my axles built with both patterns.

Dutchman on my Dart and Moser on my Barracuda.
Dutchman is located about 2 miles from my office.

If you buy A body BBP axles wouldn't you have to change your backing plates and drumd on the rear?

you can order axles that are set up to use redrilled small bolt drums. just seems to be a waste to me.. either use big car drums or go to disc and be done with it.

It would be nice to have a sticky on converting SBP cars to later drums.
I know the SBMs have different offsets and require the corresponding backing plates but are there options for ways around this ?

not sure what you are asking.. do you want to use newer drums on a small bolt car?

Yeah I realized that wasnt a clear question.. yes I would like options for replacing my SBP drums once they wear out .

How is the car used?

Another option is to put in a a 65-67 B body 8 3/4 or an F/M/J body 8 1/4.

Those may be less costly than buying new axle shafts.

BBP rear drums are reasonably easy to find. I've bought them from NAPA and Rockauto in the past couple years.

Damn abody 8 1/4 are going up in price

I used Dr. Diff axles, and used LBP backing plates, drums and all the brake hardware off a 74 7.25 rear on my 8.75.
The Dr. Diff axles were about $300.00, rear brakes were free because I already had them.

Where ? My Swinger is a 69 340 car and I cant find replacement drums.
Do you know of a source ?

Small bolt pattern 10" x 1-3/4" replacement drums are available as Centric # 123.63044. Available from Amazon, Rock Auto, Summit. I just got a pair from Summit for $1 less than Amazon by asking for their price match.
I'm using these re-drilled to 5 x 4-1/2" with re-drilled stock axles.

Ordered the last 2 ....

I bet there will be "only 2 left " tommorow as well ...lol
