Almost Messed Up Bad!

Maybe you did him a favor gunbunny. Maybe, just maybe he learned that your stuff is worth more to you than his well being, or even his life. He could have just as easily been shot for what he did.

So you may have beat some sense into his ***.

Back in 1987 or 88 we had a terrible “epidemic” of what the press called “jockey boxing”. The teens and early 20 somethings would walk through the neighborhoods and break into cars, taking the change and what not out of the cars. My car was broken in to, and they took my bowling balls, a couple of bucks worth of change from the ash tray and a VHS tape of a bunch of runs of my car.

The change was no big deal, I got my bowling balls back, but the video was never found. I was hoping that the yard where they dumped my bowling stuff would have the tape, but it didn’t. Then I walked the park up the street and looked in the garbage cans and stuff like that, hoping to find that tape. Gone forever. That pissed me off because there was quite a few runs on there.

Anyway, in 1992 I go to work driving truck and the mechanic there is just a big time prick. He’s one of the few people I know of that can out prick me, and that’s hard to do.

I was writing up some stuff on my truck I wanted fixed and he was blowing it off. So I told him fix it, or I’ll park it. We had pretty heated deal going and the dispatcher stepped in and he pulls me aside.

He says this dude hasn’t been the same since his 19 year old kid died. So I’m thinking ****, this kid died of cancer, a bad car wreck or something.

That’s not what happened. He was out there, jockey boxing, and they kept hitting the same guy over and over. Even if there wasn’t money in the car, they were going in there (I’m sure there is more to the story, but I don’t know what else happens) and just digging around in his cars.

The dude got sick of it, the cops weren’t doing anything and it came down to a face to face confrontation between the car owner and this kid and some of the kids friends.

Evidently, the kids started beating the dude (IIRC he was in his late 60’s at the time) and he drew his weapon and shot two of them, one fatally. And that was this mechanics kid.

So I decide I will go over an apologize to the guy because this is still a raw deal for him.

He starts telling me about how his kid was killed for nothing and blah blah blah and finally I said your kid is dead because HE didn't value HIS life more than the 5 bucks he thought he was getting.

And that’s just the fact of the matter. The kid thought he had the right to take what wasn’t his. And for a few rubles he was dead. That’s how little he valued his own life.

So maybe, just maybe you saved that guys life. Maybe.
