Here are the pictures I have. From what I can tell, neither one of these cars have vins. The '67 should be in the drivers door jamb, and the '69 on the dash where I have a picture of the two rivets that hold it in place correct? I'm not sure what I can do with them now, but I think it's time to talk to somebody.

I think you are right. Could you get the 67 Door open? If they took the 69 VIN, it's either in some ones tool box or on another car. Any fender tags?

The '67 doesn't have a driver's door, and the '69 door will open. I didn't notice anything in either jamb, and the hood is stuck on the '69 so I couldn't check for a fender tag. The '67 does not have a fender tag.

So 67 has nothing documentation wise? Get rid of it all it's ever gonna be is a parts car.
My guess is once you get hood open on 69 there will be no tag there either and all it will ever be is a parts car.
The 69 vin is missing but windshield intact? That vin has been "missing" for a long time.
Open trunk and look for stamping under the trunk rubber. That will give u last 8 digits on vin. Another spot is rad cradle but if you can't get hood open...

Quick sale $4k for both receipt only....

So, let's play "worst case scenario".....

What if the previous owner removed the VINs and is keeping them...

A- because he feels they will help him retain ownership if you do anything with the cars, or

B- because he obtained them in a questionable manner, and thinks their absence will protect him.

I say call the PO and tell him any cash deal is off the table and he can either fill out a state bill of sale on both cars using the stampings/ SO number or remove the cars ASAP.

or

Call the police and or DMV and tell them exactly what happened, then if it is an option, pursue a title search/application after filing a storage lien.

I'm going to see about getting the hood open on the '69, and when the fender tag is absent I will look at getting into the trunk. I would honestly say the PO has never had any vins or titles for these cars.

If the PO did in fact remove the VIN's, he might be in deep sheite if the law finds them in his possession. The 67 will be hard to figure out, because there was no partial VIN stamped on it. It will have the SO number stamped on it, and that is different than the VIN. I believe I would quietly let them things go down the road with somebody! This sounds like one of them things that won't stink if you don't poke it. :(

Sorry all for no updates. Life's been going on and I haven't got back to these cars. Still trying to figure out what to do, but I will update when a decision is made or more information is obtained. Thanks guys for all the great recommendations and advice.

Bump for an update if you have one. It’s a damn shame those cars are in that shape.
They're still hanging around. Life gets in the way of plans sometimes (and other car issues). I've got somebody interested in the '67 but I'm not sure about the '69 yet. Hopefully I'll get the ball rolling on it soon.

hey RammerJammer.... if you don't have a buyer for the 69, drop me a private message - i might be interested in buying that one for a parts car.

Just a small bit of closure. The '67 finally left today, so hopefully the '69 will follow it soon. I still need to get the trunk open and see about finding the partial vin. If I can, we might be able to get a title for it.

Can't you get the partial vin from the drivers side of the rad support?

I have not yet. I spoke to the guy we used for mechanics liens and he told me if I could get him at least a partial vin we could find out. I've had a lot going on with other car/personal issues. I haven't forgot about you though.
