Almost Messed Up Bad!

First... Thanx for your service.

Now... Your "tune up" = settling outta court...
He's lucky.
We're lucky too here in PA. We have Castle Doctrine too.
We live in a pretty safe area, we moved outta Pittsburgh in 2010. But just in case we have Blink video, 12 gauge, AR-15, 40 caliber, etc. And 2 German Shepherds.

If you have good wifi, Arlo camera systems are pretty good and they're affordable. We've had a set for close to two years after somebody broke into a truck and they're nice to keep an eye on things.

Hey Rammer, I just looked at the Arlo camera system. Thinking about ordering some. Sort of like insurance...you don't need it until you do!!

One question:. It says "rechargeable batteries" with a magnetic cable. How does that work?

Thanks!!

Thanks for your service. I would have thrashed him too, and then taken his shoes. Hard to run away (through a forest!) with no shoes on. My dog goes crazy when the mailman comes.....I can imagine what she would do in the forest with too many attention getters. Probably just give up and sleep.

I just ordered the Arlo 2-camera system. We've talked about it for a couple of years and this thread was the push I needed.

This is why I'm mostly upset.
I pride myself on being able to act rationally, stay calm and focused.
Even after I got hurt in Iraq, I stayed calm. It was never personal there.
When I saw that guy, all I could think was "he's going to hurt me, my wife and my grand daughter".

Don't worry about the whoop *** you gave him, that's payback for the damage that he did to your property while breaking into it...

When I lived in Detroit, we came home one day and catch a guy in our enclosed back porch (we left a few windows open in the nice weather)..... I asked him what he was doing in there, he replied, "I'm just rummaging"....

I let my two Dalmatians out in the back yard to corner the guy so he couldn't escape and held him while I called the police....

There was no way he could make it from the porch to the fence without the dogs catching him...

My wife took the kids to her parents house (2 blocks away) while the Dalmatians and I waited for the police to come get him...

Sir gunbunny,
You have nothing to apologize for in my book. I am reminded of a crusty old man of my acquaintance who opined the reason we have so many big assholes, is when they were little assholes nobody grabbed them by the ankles and swung them into a tree a few times to emphasize the difference between acceptable behavior and unacceptable behavior. The dickheads of the world seem to have to learn things the hard way. Feel no regret for being the teacher.

Maybe you did him a favor gunbunny. Maybe, just maybe he learned that your stuff is worth more to you than his well being, or even his life. He could have just as easily been shot for what he did.

So you may have beat some sense into his ***.

Back in 1987 or 88 we had a terrible “epidemic” of what the press called “jockey boxing”. The teens and early 20 somethings would walk through the neighborhoods and break into cars, taking the change and what not out of the cars. My car was broken in to, and they took my bowling balls, a couple of bucks worth of change from the ash tray and a VHS tape of a bunch of runs of my car.

The change was no big deal, I got my bowling balls back, but the video was never found. I was hoping that the yard where they dumped my bowling stuff would have the tape, but it didn’t. Then I walked the park up the street and looked in the garbage cans and stuff like that, hoping to find that tape. Gone forever. That pissed me off because there was quite a few runs on there.

Anyway, in 1992 I go to work driving truck and the mechanic there is just a big time prick. He’s one of the few people I know of that can out prick me, and that’s hard to do.

I was writing up some stuff on my truck I wanted fixed and he was blowing it off. So I told him fix it, or I’ll park it. We had pretty heated deal going and the dispatcher stepped in and he pulls me aside.

He says this dude hasn’t been the same since his 19 year old kid died. So I’m thinking ****, this kid died of cancer, a bad car wreck or something.

That’s not what happened. He was out there, jockey boxing, and they kept hitting the same guy over and over. Even if there wasn’t money in the car, they were going in there (I’m sure there is more to the story, but I don’t know what else happens) and just digging around in his cars.

The dude got sick of it, the cops weren’t doing anything and it came down to a face to face confrontation between the car owner and this kid and some of the kids friends.

Evidently, the kids started beating the dude (IIRC he was in his late 60’s at the time) and he drew his weapon and shot two of them, one fatally. And that was this mechanics kid.

So I decide I will go over an apologize to the guy because this is still a raw deal for him.

He starts telling me about how his kid was killed for nothing and blah blah blah and finally I said your kid is dead because HE didn't value HIS life more than the 5 bucks he thought he was getting.

And that’s just the fact of the matter. The kid thought he had the right to take what wasn’t his. And for a few rubles he was dead. That’s how little he valued his own life.

So maybe, just maybe you saved that guys life. Maybe.

He’s one of the few people I know of that can out prick me, and that’s hard to do.

Can you out prick this guy???

Got 4 cameras this summer,Lorex. Not the greatest but i get an idea of who comes and goes. Shop is 280 feet from house, its in view of cameras but not much detail. High point, i get notifications sent to my phone, mostly within seconds of an event.

You hang the magnetic base and then the back of the Arlo camera has a cupped metal plate that it connects to the base with. You can move them around and change the angles if you like, and it's a strong magnet, never had one fall off. Once the battery is low, you just take it down and charge it. They charge in about 4 or 5 hours. It's a pretty nice system.

Re: Seeing Red
Just happen to hear some of a program on this - I think it was Sat. I meant to turn the radio off and caught this and the stories were too interesting so I left it on in the background.
The takeaway as I recall it was that a person never knows what or when that reaction will occur. It's mostly relates to the subconcious brain making connections to a primal threat. Not always one that you rationally would decide is such a threat.

If I can find the program quickly I'll link it.
well this isn't it but is one of the main people in it.

Well, I certainly snapped.
I'm not saying it's related, but I need a new snow shovel because mine has a very busted handle.

Well, talked to the neighbor, he has cameras on his place. They caught the guy walking into his yard, he walked around his garage, peeked into the windows and walked toward my place.
Later you can see him running thru his yard and up the street. A moment later he's driving off in a blue Ford Taurus with the left headlamp out. We can't make out the plate.
My neighbor is pretty P/O'd as well.
My other neighbor is the head of the TWP EMT's here. He said he'd reach out and see if anyone was transported. He doubts very much I'll ever hear from this guy again. He's saying there's a new batch of ****** that's hit the area. We're not as affected, but the TWP over is getting hit pretty bad. Several OD's the past few weeks. he's said the same thing, not to worry about the guy. I might have hurt him, but he was able to drive away, so it wasn't to bad.
So I fixed the door on the garage, and the shed. I didn't do anything with the bolt bin yet. That'll take hours.
I'm going to make some calls tomorrow, I guess it's time to put cameras up. It won't stop anyone, but at least I'll see them getting into things. I also guess I'll bring the keys in out of the garage. I keep the keys to the Dart and Duster out there.
I hate this.

Maybe get a good dog?
