Whats the difference between these two engines? Can someone give me as much info on these two as possible?

They were made "earlier." I don't believe you'll find many around

which would be the advantage of each? obviously the B based engine is gonna have a higher ability to rev due to the shorter stroke

i think the RB 383 is the "wide block or poly" engine... also these were the old style castings meaning they way a ton more than a new 383 or 440 block...

RB 383's WERE NOT "wide block Poly engines." RB 383's were exactly what they are termed---they were a 383 CID B type block with the same stroke and high deck as a 413, hence RB for "raised block" 383. They take the same B/RB heads as any other Mopar big block.

Also I DO wish people would stop calling the old "A" 318's also known as a "Polysphere head" as a "wide block."

The only reason the old Poly engines looked wide is the HEADS, the block IN FACT is so similar to an LA that if you had an A and an LA BLOCK sitting side by side, you'd have a little trouble telling them apart. They were, in fact, a small block design.

So the answer to the question is the rb 383 has rb deck heighth and stroke with b main size? What would the bore be? Sounds like it would be expensive to build as you,d need custom pistons.

The old RB 383 was a small bore engine, not worth screwing with, in fact MaMopar didn't think much of it because they only made them two years.

If anyone is looking for one, I just found one that will be for sale. Don't think is was a runner, but, it should be buildable if someone wants an oddity to play with. It would have to be picked up here in San Diego as the owner will not ship it.

The only good use I can imagine for a RB 383 is if someone is restoring a car where that would be the “correct” engine for it....... and they wanted it to be “right”.

It would make a really good truck/towing engine.

Did you know the first B was 350? Wouldn't that be fun to screw with the Shevyheads?

Did you know a 383 (B, low deck) has a shorter stroke than a Chev 350? (3.375 Mopar B, 3.48, Chev 350)

A 383RB engine is a pathetic design with the small bore size. Don't use one unless you're doing a restoration that has to be perfectly correct.

Yeah that's what was in Christine. The 350 Golden Commando.

I saw a 383RB in a wrecking yard a few years back and it had a cast iron carb. Now that would be a slug of an engine! A 383RB with a cast iron carb. Couldn't get much worse than that unless it was a /6 in a C body.
