Existing parts: Edlebrock RPM Performer with Holley 4150.

Intended change: Adding 1/2" phenolic spacer under carb for heat protection.

I am using the OEM throttle cable bracket. It bolts into existing bolt bosses on the intake just fine.

Can someone recommend a bracket that will get me a bit more height and still retain the reasonably correct pull angle by the cable?

I don't have a ton of room to raise the OEM cable, but 1/2" shouldn't be a problem. If someone knows better, that a new cable is necessary, I would appreciate hearing about that too. I could just add a bit of spacer under the existing bracket, but that changes the angle as much as raises the bracket. It might work just fine.

Thanks!

Do you have the hood room or air clener base drop for the 1/s spacer?

I used one of these to shield the bowls of the aluminum QuickFuel Carb I have.

Holley 108-70 Heat Shield Kit

I ended up buying a Lokar cable.

I do have the room. The hole in my hood with the bracket scoop takes care of that.

I am familiar with the heat shield, but don't want one.

I get into fuel boiling problems only in quite hot weather (90ºs) and stop-n-go traffic with winter-blend fuel. Heat is not the issue I want to deal with in this thread..just the bracket.

I have the short OEM cable...17.5" or close to it. I can get an A-body OEM 21" cable. The cable isn't a problem if I have to get one. If someone used my setup and KNEW a longer cable was required, that would be good to know.

I`d just splice a piece in if you have a welder- grinder- metal.

That's not me. Besides my existing bracket is chrome-plated for quickness/speed/HP...so I don't want to mess with it.

I was building this one for the taller airgap manifold but I sold the car. I also designed it so that I could have easy access to the intake bolts:

That's fine, but metal fabrication isn't something I'll be doing.

Besides, there remains the 5HP issue. Sorry. Can't do without it!

It bolts to an existing bracket I believe.

Like this........

I did miss that. Still, I don't see it. Your bracket has a horizontal mount, mine is vertical. You end up vertical, with the 90º bend of the piece giving some lift. I would end up horizontal, giving me some offset.

Kudos for giving me another chance. Still, I think not.

You DO need to get that thing at least powder coated...for speed/quickness etc. etc. ;)

**edit**

Maybe I could flatten it out. Hhhmmmm.....

My bracket is not something out of the ordinary..it's OEM as far as I know. I tried taking pics of it as installed, but got nothing satisfactory. In Daves link result, I just noticed a redirect that has perfect pics of exactly what I have:

This is the link to it...although I wouldn't expect the 'auction' to be live in perpetuity.

At least, credit to where the pic came from.

This just occurred to me (I think slow): I can get some barrel spacers at the local hardware store, grind angles to the ends that match the angle of the existing bracket-to-manifold, get to the UPlift I want. The existing bracket would likely work fine, the carb linkage running an arc. Just seems reasonable to keep the 'bend' of the throttle cable to a minimum.

I bought a bit longer throttle cable (a 19.75" one if anyone is keeping track) to give me some room to move. A couple of angled spacers I think should work just fine.

Lol, the bracket and intake was painted with Volvo Penta outdrive rattle can. The cruise adapter was a "throw it on" to get running.
Anyway it's just a temporary set up while I contemplate selling or re-installing this animal....

My head hurts at the thought of making it work just looking at one'a those things. A Black Art indeed.

But then, I sent my brand new still-in-the-box Holley to a carb tuner before I bolted it on, and other than 4-corner adjustments, haven't touched it or had it off in 20 years.

My head hurts quite easily.

U can use the linkage piece from a car with cruise. It will raise it up and ahead. Works great with a 2 bbl bracket. Or cut it off and weld it off at the bend and bolt it on to get the height u need. Kim

You are referring to the bracket that Dave mentioned? I did buy one'a those. A brand new one..with not quite the good-looking patina of the bay item. Haven't sorted out its efficacy in my situation. <pic> attached
