Looking at the FAST class. What are the biggest factory installed tire for 1965 Dodge Dart 273/4bbl?

The little booklet I have shows two tire sizes came on 1965 Darts. 6.50x13 as standard and 6.95x14 as the upgrade. 6.95x14 is approximately 175/80R14 in modern tire size

I believe you can run one tire size above what was offered and still be legal. The factory exhaust manifolds will be a bigger hurdle probably.

?? What in the world has this to do with what tire came stock on a '65 Dart? :wtf:

He's simply saying that the tires won't be the biggest "problem" is all.

I'm familiar with the class of racing he is talking about. Didn't mean to step on YOUR toes. I'll be sure to keep to myself now though.
Thanks for spelling it out Rusty lol.

My toes are fine. I just didn't see the tie-in between his question and your answer. I see it now, thanks.

I remember that my Dad was given a great deal on a showroom special 1965 4 door 273/4 Dart, that he bought during the Presidents Day sale in 1966. I distinctly remember washing the car in the springtime and the tires were 14". I looked in the tech manual and nothing listed about the tire size. Thought that with a 14" tire I could move to a 15" and have more tire surface on the blacktop.

Do the FAST rules limit you to running a 273 block? Hmmmmm? A 4" crank in a 273 makes a ? Ported heads and all the tricks you can come up with will make a stout little motor.....which is gonna annihilate those itty bitty tires. :steering: Have fun....that's what it's all about!

I just had this conversation with my brother tonight. He is building a 69 Firebird 350 HO 3sp car for stock class ... I was wondering why nobody runs a 440 Dart or Barracuda in the FAST class .?

If you are
talking about tha a-body 440s, its cause they have to run stock exhaust manifolds, and a-body 440 manifolds are about five grand.

I have to wonder if any of the techs would know what m-code manifolds look like ?

A 440 A body running in FAST is handicapped by its single four barrel Carter carb that's really too small for a stock 440, let alone for a stroker FAST motor.

You don't see 383 A bodies in FAST, either, and their exhaust manifolds are pretty readily available. And a 383 can be stroked to at least 470 or so cubes, so size isn't the problem. But like the 440 A bodies, the 383 A bodies have to run a factory carb, and the OEM AVS on an A body 383 flows maybe 550 cfms, which is too small for a stroker big block.
