68 Dart GTE Project

Its a 3.0L inline six at 183 cid. These engine are and can be very stout engines.

I'm not arguing its a well done swap
I'm simply arguing that its too bad he choose that particular vehicle for it

The boost controller is on 17lbs right now once coils are swapped for the stronger ones im going to take it back to Titan to turn it up to the final number
Pretty impressive. But a few thoughts, have you measured backpressure during a run? It seems it should make more than that on 17 pounds. You might need a little larger ar and maybe a larger turbo all together. For reference my j35 Honda (not a direct comparison I know) made just over 560 at the crank on 16psi with a 68mm gt35 before we went to e85 and really turned the wick up. I ran out of turbo pretty quick.

Right now im running 93 pump fuel. Also the 455 is at the tire so with the ball park 10-15 percent drivetrain loss that would be over 500 at the crank. Also the intercooler seems to be undersized for flow needs so im fabbing up a bigger one to fit the chassis without cutting more since the turbo is a .81ar borg warner s300 with a full 4in downpipe and exhaust on it so that shouldnt be a problem
 
I love this build, and have considered the same swap in my car. The 2JZ is one hell of an engine that I've always wanted to mess with. Power seems decent for a 62mm on pump gas, but I did notice the small intercooler right off the bat. Do you have room for a higher flowing core, and do you plan to push more boost once that is resolved? Could you post the dyno graph?

Also, is your exhaust routed all the way out the back? I'm looking to run a single 4" on my duster, but hadn't considered oval piping; how tight was it?
 
4" round isn't that bad either, I have dual 4" on my build just can't lower the car much, for more clearance I wish I did oval though. Will see how bad it is once its up and driving, might need to swap to oval lol

Nice build - the 2JZ is a great engine - don't mind the nay-sayers.... they have their opinions - show me a small block mopar that you can swap a turbo on and make 800hp on a stock bottom end. Overall, love the project

Heres the pic of the dyno graph from Titan with the old cooler, and a pic of the new intercooler core that just showed up that I need to fab some endtanks for. I went with a 18 x 8.5 x 6 core for the final intercooler as I refuse to cut any of the grill so it ended up being more thickness than frontal area. This will be about 40% more cooling area than the old one and is rated for the flow this engine needs. Once I get the tanks finished this week Ill post some pics and what the results are for intake air temp drops from the data logs

Also for the exhaust it is just a turndown in front of the rear axle it would be a huge pain to fit the oval tube over the axle

That's one monstrous a/a ic. And I thought my 3.5" on my srt4 neon was pretty thick lol. Definently going to work better for that motor.

Show me a stock small block Mopar that was built to handle any kind of boost. I'm not trying to be smart, but you're comparing an engine that was build to handle boost vs one that wasn't.
 
Well since turbos are easier on the rotating assembly I would bet that a 340 with the factory steel crank, maybe the TA rods and low comp stock pistons might be able to handle it or at least be able to handle near it.

Maybe, and maybe a Magnum will take it, but probably not for long. It's still a discussion of an engine that was designed for forced induction vs one that isn't.

Very true, and totally agree the 2JZ and the RB26DETT nissian were specifically made to handle boost and power. So many of those cars are pushing 1000+ with a few bolt ons. Was just thinking of a stock factory that could possibly handle it just for kicks.

I cant believe I haven't posted the video of my trip up to Tail of the Dragon with some buddies of mine. I got some good gopro videos below from the dash of the car from a few short runs before we hit traffic. I was really surprised on the handling of it, I was easily able to keep up with my friends widebody BRZ you can see leading me. As for the feel of it, it definetly feels quicker on turn in and in the center of the corner it feels way flatter than the big block. Powering out of the corner is definitely fun if you press the pedal a little too far even with the 255s and 200 treadwear tires on it.

Very cool. Looks like the car is well sorted. What tires do you run? I have had good success in local club racing with the falken azenis rt615k on road courses. I do use them on a super light car though and have heard they get greasy on heavier cars. Also remind me what brakes you have?
 
Man that sounds good, great job. Sweet looking ride, glad you put on those hood vents to get that hot air out.
