Importing a car from Canada

-
Just pull up to the border and tell them you are importing a Lada. When Border Patrol hits the ground laughing, just drive right by.

Canadian here. Owned a few Lada's back in the day. Import more than one. It takes a few to keep one running.
I agree. Just strap the parts car to the roof, they arent very heavy:lol:

Patience and good attitude goes a long way. Make certain your paperwork is 100 percent correct BEFORE you get to the border, I heard horror stories about bringing current cars in for pre-market testing. The biggest problem is 12/5 and 5/12 is the same day, depending where you are. But that should not be a problem for you.

I haven’t sent any down that way. U may try @Riddler. He is a very helpful guy. Kim

I'm not sure I'd be any help bring a car from Canada to the USA but check the rules for importing car not sold in the USA. Also check grey market vehicle laws and make sure the vehicle you want to import is legal prior to importing. Prior to Covid we had a nice American who bought a car that wasn't legal for import into the USA. Japanese car not sold in the USA. Sadly the car was put into storage until the guy could resell it.

Was it a Japanese car that wasn’t at least 25 years old? At least in Canada it’s only 15 years to import a Japanese car.

15 years for import however you must import from the USA. Some scammers are bringing cars from Japan into the USA shipping ports and bringing them into Canada, however those don't qualify for import.

This was such a car....not legal in either country.

5-15 years ago I bet I safetied 5 or 6 each year that came from Japan. Lots of right hand drive Nissan’s and Hino trucks. Kim

Yes, Kim you are correct (as always I say that without sarcasm) one can get a car into the States, no matter what year, oddly enough, newish cars need new windshields, as EU glass is too good. Btw Safelite doesn’t stock Citroen glass. But the smell of that leather was worth the wait.Apparently the French want their leather to smell like a baseball glove, not a shitty piece of plastic. Okay my rant is over, car Princess wants is old enough to be a toy, should not be a problem. The paperwork I say not the car.

Princess, all kidding aside, give John Buffum in Burlington VT, a call, he does this for a living.John may be retired or worse by now, but last I heard his son was running the show. Different last name, but show not be too hard to figure out.
