I got this 72 a few months ago from a good friend. It’s a great car and lots of fun with the 440 of course! I am on the fence with the stripe. The friend I got it from put it on about 4 years ago. The car was hardly driven that year, then sat covered in his garage for 3 years due to a back injury until I got it. So there shouldn’t be any real fade to the paint. I don’t know if I should leave it off or put the correct style on it for the year. I don’t mind the ‘69 year stripe, but it just looks “off”. My buddy who built the car back about 17 years ago never had a stripe on it and I thought it looked good, but maybe too much green without it?
Thinking of taking stripe off.

Off with the stripe. It looks good as is. I like the green and I think it will look really good without it. I’m also used to seeing the slanted one which includes the side light.
If it's the wrong stripe, take it off. You liked it before without it. Drive it, down the road if you want a stripe then put the one you want on it. I like that Green.

I also just bought a GT Mustang with no stripes. I was debating about it too. Just like the clean look of it with no stripes.

Take it off. Either leave it off or put the proper one on. Look good either way. That 69 stripe looks so out of place not following the body lines it's ridiculous. Ruins the entire look of the car in my opinion.
Raise the whole car up a little, think the springs and torsions have sagged a little over 30 years sitting a little low, especially with heavier 440/727 engine and accessory combo on there.
Then after you get the ride height evened out put on a set of period correct aluminum slots on there, available in 15" SBP now.
Yes, Stance, Wheels, and Tires, sets the look of the whole car. The stripe on the back will accent the whole package when all aspects are complimenting each other.
Instead of just focusing on the tail stripe when you walk up to the car.

Yea I am wanting to raise it a bit. It’s got adjustable QA1 shocks on it and they are dialed down so it’d be an easy process to get it up a bit. Oh yes slots would be great I think too!

straight looks good on a 67-69 but for the 70-73 its hideouts looking.. makes that marker light look like its out in the middle of nowhere. back of the 70-73 cars are too slanted for that straight stripe for me.

?? i think the stance looks great as is.. any higher its going to look like a 4X4 and probably handle like one.
Do like the Stance of Mike's car and the angle of the rear stripe that goes well with the rear body lines and rear bumper of the car.
It is real difficult to remove the rear stripe without paint damage in some form or another. Although a talented sign/decal lettering person may have a technique for getting it off carefully, but I would not want to bet my paint job on it though.

Here is a Low Rider here, just kind of depends on the final look you are going after.
