So, my daughter got this out of of my late Dad's garage. He was a tinkerer and never threw anything away. BTW, his middle name was Ford. She is making a bookend out of it. Anyone know what it is?

We used to have 2-3 of those around Dad's place. Weak as well water LOL

We also used to have 3 or 4 telephone hand crank mags. Wish I had one particular one today. It was a "strong" generator LOL

Vietnam OP/LP's (observation/Listening post) used to tape the leads to their fingers at night so there was no audible ring to the field phone that they had wired up. Also woke them up if the were sleeping! Getting hit with AC current kicks hard! 90V AC ring voltage on todays phones will make you jerk your hand back.

Not long after I first bought my house, this was decades ago, the phones started effin' up. Ringer would start to tinkle and then just fizzle, speech would be garbleed ????? One day I was sitting on the toiled and noticed a bulge tucked under the top of the mopboard right by the shower. THERE HAD BEEN a homeowner added extension in the bath, cut it loose and just tucked the wire under. Thing was wet and had got dirty enough to become conductive--shorted out the ringer voltage

I have been zapped by one of those.....A feeling not soon forgot......:BangHead:

I own a TA-312 and a TA-1. Found them at a yard sale when I was carrying mail. I have about 1/2 mile WD1 wire for both.
When my boy was a kid he thought it was pretty neat. They've sat out there for a few years. I guess they probably work.

Cool, my Dad had a couple of the old crank phones, but I think an antique dealer got them.

We had an electric fence when I was a kid that was powered by a car battery. My dad loved to grab the fence, than grab your hand. It was quite a jolt as well, and he thought it was hilarious.
