Cam options for a 380hp 360 crate motor

Troy sold a ton of those at the old Westoaks Mopar Performance.

He said they weren’t great down low, but made good peak numbers (marketing) for a low compression 9.0:1.

Most people put them in cruiser type cars, but picked the 380HP because of the high HP number (marketing was right) But they were not a motor you could slap parts on without tuning and drive to the grocery store without any additional effort.

Typical 380HP buyers would have been happier with 320HP version. Eyes bigger than their stomach syndrome.

They were a little rough idle, not cold start friendly, and took carb and combination tuning to make them flawlessly around town stoplight friendly.

Honestly, my 416 stroker has too much torque down low and wipes out the rear tire in autocross. It doesnt help for smooth driving. One of the reasons I put a M1 single plane in it.

But the higher rpm HP on that 380HP crate would be great at the track. A more modern cam swap focused on area under the curve could be if help.

I look into custom cam person because of the low compression and specific intentions.

If it’s weak, it’s out of tune or hurt.
