Don’t know the car or the owner but Why did you walk away?

Turquoise 68 FB

I'm interested but I'm 1500 miles away.

Interested in the details and story

I think this thread takes the “most cryptic thread” today!

Talk about fishing for info without providing any context on much. It’s a bit like saying “I’ve spent a few hours trying but I’m catching nothing. What am I doing wrong?”

Hmmm, well first how about telling us if you’re even tossing your lure in a body of water? Fresh or salt water? From a boat or shore? Is there ice on the lake?

well, barracuda are a salt water fish, so that answers one of your questions

I looked at all the pictures read the add rust free arizona car $7500. And we went with the cash to buy it. What a joke that was . The ony nice pane wat the declid. The car was totally stripped. Then a whole bunch of parts were thrown in the car from other cars just like the broken 68 tail lights. .

The drip rails? The seam sealer was gone and its been sitting in the rain.

The passenger side floor was totally gone extended into the rocker, door pillar, and the cowl. Hidden by the cheap rusty $50 floor setting on top. With parts piled on the floor now. So we had to lift the parts and floor out to see it.

The heater box was out as was the vent box. I had Todd reach up in and feel the water dams in the cowl , They were rotted. This car was sitting outside with a roof seam leak for a long time. The water rotted the dams then the cowl and floors and into the hinge post. The water also ran into the rockers at the bottoms of the quarters for a long time.

Then the Colorado sticker from 81 after the man just got finished telling todd it was an Arizona car its whole life. No pictures of the bad areas were posted and they were not brought to light how bad they were. The only way we saw it was because I pulled the floor patch out

The man was non sociable and misrepresented the car. Not a good buy for resto or parts all the parts have been taken . The car would be good for a chassis race car- Quarters and roof? We Walked away after a 3 1/2 hr ride. At least a got a free Chicken sandwich from Todd.

Well seeing the pics it deserved a closer look. It doesn't look too bad. Glad you took the ride to see what was really going on!! He probably wasn't very social with you because he knew he was lying through his teeth. Hope the chicken sandwich was good. Of coarse it was good it was FREE!!

It's been on fb forever and a day.
Based on the ad your description sounds like a completely different car.

The trials and tribulations of our Mopars! Technically, you never know til you look for yourself. One man's trash is another man's treasure, and vice versa. Next! 65'

Ahhhhh, there’s some detail finally!

You’ve been around the block so I’m surprised your surprised you saw a used car that was misrepresented? What’s the surprise?

Was the non sociable man the owner of the car? If so, why are you asking others who the owner is? You spent some time with him and was able to read he wasn’t all that truthful. Do you need others to confirm that? And if it wasn’t the owner, why wouldn’t you be dealing with the owner if you actually were going to buy it (assuming it wasn’t misrepresented)?

i think he was trying to protect the guilty

Ah yes, the guilty need to be protected! Who cares about the victims, it’s the guilty/criminals that need protection.

Well that protection only lasted a few hours.

i figured he probably wanted to give the guy a chance to explain himself, before he put out the word

He knows what he has, he's no fool, doesn't need to sell, no low ballers, garage kept since the 80's, got more money in it than I'm asking, many parts come with it, by appointment only, if it doesn't sell I'll put a Hemi in it...blah blah blah blah blah

The % of the people I meet are pretty honest. The man may just be mentally challenged. There was no Conversation between myself and him. One question.. "Whats your rock bottom price?" After his answer I walked to my truck Todd took the hint and we were out of there. I was just wondering if he is a member.

If I where in the market for a project car I would would be looking at other options, maybe brand XY or Z. Over priced POS mopars are getting depressing.

It doesn't look that bad. I bet its fixable structurally. I have fixed worse ones, but for $7500 it isn't that good either. Especially with everything thsts missing off of it.

Does not look terrible as far as rust is concerned. But for $7500 I would expect rust free. $7500 for a bare roller is ridiculous. Barracudas are one of the few cars you can actually find for a reasonable price still.
Although 15 years ago when I was looking for one I couldnt find one anywhere around here. I had to "settle" for an E body Barracuda.

That's what we said when we looked at these pictures. We drove 3 1/2 hrs and left it there.
The firewall and the cowl and the door hinge posts have bad rust. As does the roof seam and the rockers. The water came in the roof and flowed down the a pillars and the quarters.
The integrity of this body is beyond a safe repair due to the rust. Or you could cage it.
Its what you don't see on the pictures where it's really bad. $7000 ? I would say $2000-$2500 Max as mentioned and that would be if you desperately needed one for some parts.

Nice deck lid though'
