I’m looking to swap an LA out for a B block. Since production at Schumacher creative services has ceased, I’m looking for a engine mounts from them or another solution. Swap kit pictured below.

Engine Conversion and Replacement Kits for '73 & Up A,B,C,F,M,J-Body

A73B8.jpg

'73 & Up A,B,C,F,M,J-Body V8 to B/RB Conversion Kit

Positions the Big Block 383, 400 or 440 engine to factory specs on your original V8 '73 and up A, B, F, M, J-Body (and '74 & up C-Body) K-member while still retaining the bullet-proof quality of Chrysler originals. Complete kit includes laser-cut, powder-coated brackets, urethane inserts, grade 8 bolt package, and detailed, illustrated instructions. Applicable to cars with or without power steering.
(see installation instructions and tech tips)

NOTE: In order to gain oil pump clearance, the driver's side engine mounting perch needs to be drilled with 9/16" holes and excess material must be removed. This can be done without removing the K-member and is detailed in the instructions.

A73B8 - $159 + $20 S&H

Those don't look difficult to make by modifying an existing set of spool mounts. Just cut slide back and re-weld or are there other things involved?

I've toyed with the idea of going big block before but haven't had need yet.

I’m still looking for my spare set of B engine mounts. I sold one set a while back and the other I put.....
Somewhere REALLY SAFE. To safe. Can’t find the dang things. Tore up my place and went nuts lookin. Wait! I forgot to check the toilet bowls water tank!

Finding a swap kit set is the easy way to do this before I take out the welder. I also have nothing but time. No rush. But I’d like the kit.

Based on the instructions for the kit, looks like the mount through bolt comes down about an inch besides sliding over. So if someone tried to build mounts using the OEM brackets, they would have to add length to it as well.

It appears this is due to interference with the oil pump. Is there an option for a pump that would remove this issue?

I've toyed with putting a BB in my Duster, but don't have a spare V8 K-Frame and don't want to modify mine. This is so I could go back to the #'s matching motor if I did swap it out. Be nice to find a way to bolt a BB in without having to cut something up.

Worst case, I will keep my eyes open for a later K (/6 or V8) and use it if I decide to go down the BB rabbit hole.

Rob, I have lots of factory mounts if u need. Kim
I’ll take you up on the offer I think.

Correct. That hole was drilled in the past.
Ideally, I’d like to find a good K frame for the big block.
A junk small block K frame would also be good for the drivers mounting perch repair/restore.

There is no issue with the external big block pump. On older K frames of the /6 verity, there is.

You would have to cut the K frames drivers mounting perch base where there are the gusset at the base. Not a big deal at all. I’m not sure about the small block K frame. A spare K frame should be easy-ish to find. @Jim Lusk has a video up on how to modify the K frame to the old DC spec. video part one below.

(Mostly answered above, LMAO!)
I had my ‘78 - 400 in my ‘71 Duster. I didn’t build it up because I had no real performance parts for it at the time plus the rebuild costs to get rid of the low compression, worn out piston replacement done. Now I have a six pack (80% complete) as well as a M1 single and a 1,000 cfm TQ to mount up top.

I’d like to keep it ether a 400 or go to a 470. I have 2 - 400’s to mess with. The 400 idea was even before Road Kill’s Crop Duster car came up. There’s being a 383. I was thinking a VERY Red color and the same black out treatment they have. Just like my 1/43 or is a 1/18, model car.

I haven't looked into it much, just an idle "what-if" right now. Was going to swap my 400 motor into the '73 /6 Duster I had, but my son wanted it back so now I am left with my '74 Duster 360 4M car and a 400 that I could sell or....? :D

Bump! Still looking for the swap kit or stock mounts for a B block in a late 70’s car.

I am currently waiting for a set that should arrive next week.
I am planning to tool up and make the sb to b/rb spool mounts to fill a small void.

It may take a bit to make the bending fixtures to make them

If i can find a /6 to b/rb i may be able to make those as well.

First customer for a small block to big block kit right here brother!

Is this the kit you guys are looking for? I saw this at a local source the other day. No box or tag to show what it fits, or, who made it, but, it sure looks like big block upper spool brackets to me. The lower brackets.....not so sure. Maybe for an early slant 6 k-member? Sorry, I guess I should have flipped them around the other way!

The lower brackets look like they go to the earlier K frames. Like the motor mounts bolt through... the stud goes through and then the nut from under.

They do indeed look like the big block mounts!
I’ll stroll on over to the Schumacher site....
