Looking at installing a scoop on to my son's 65 valiant. We like the look of the 67 hemi scoops, but it might be a "tad" too large. Also, we're trying to get by on somewhat of a budget.

I am toying with the idea of making one. Not sure of we'll go with steel, or fiberglass yet. I've looked at a ton of videos on glass plug/mold making and none of it looks like rocket science, but the materials are a bit expensive for a one off. That said, it is something I'd like to learn overall so I'm not opposed to the expense outright.

I know there are some "awesome" scoops out there by reputable manufacturers out there, but I am also interested in the challenge of doing this and learning something new.

There is another thread about making a scoop, which I am watching but didn't want to hijack his thread, so here I am.

I'd like to hear from people who have done this and see your results. Links to threads or helpful info are greatly appreciated.

Again, steel or composites, I'm not partial at this point.

Thanks

In the interest of time, we went ahead and bought a six-pack scoop. Yeah I know it's over done but we like it. The boy leaves for boot camp in the middle of Jan so we're trying to get it rollin' runnin' and stoppin' before then.

Still interested in the processes. We're going to use 3M panel bond to lay it down.

i always like this idea

(i know ive seen a mopar with the "detroit press" but cant find it now)

I went with the 6 pack too, just the 4.5" one, most go Hemi but I like the 6 pack too. Still need to cut the hole and mount mine with the 3m on the bottom then have it body filled in to help hold and make it seamless.

We took an AAR hood, cut what we wanted off it, 3M adhesive to factory hood, then body worked it. 2 years ago and it looks as fresh as the day we did it. Thank your family for your service.

Man I've seen that and it was almost the inspiration to try my hand at forming an AAR scoop using a 3/16 wire "buck" and using steel. Time is of the escense though so that will need to wait.

For now, we're going to focus on getting what needs done, done and roll in it until he shops off. While he's away, I'm going to continue to work on it and get the 8.8 ready. The plan is to install it when he's on his ten days of boot leave.

Anyway, our plan for the scoop is to do exactly as you had done with the 3M stuff. That might be something I do when he's away as well. For now, he's doing as much of it on his own and learning on the fly (we both are).

Anyway, I'd like to thank folks for the "thanks".

Now... MoPar or NoCar... :)

man, its done allready?
i was gonna suggest making it a little pointy, so that the lines of the scoop matches the lines of the hood and bumper
i think that would look better
