I'm getting ready to rebuild a Federal style power steering pump. I suspect that the pump shaft has a wear ring at the front seal. Does anybody know if there is a Speedi-Sleeve available for a quick repair? I've had great success with these on differential pinion seal leaks.

Akron Bearing in Akron, Ohio (www.akronbearing.com) has pretty much every size you can think of. That's where I got one for my pump & harmonic balancer. Not cheap but cheaper than a new one!

Shaft in my saginaw pump showed a little wear where the seal lip runs. Might not have been enough to cause a leak with a new seal. I went ahead and put about an hour into making a spacer the same size as the land in the casting beneath the seal. Piece of scrap aluminum ( easy to work ) was .046 thick? I forget. Anyway,,, the seal stopped a little proud of the casting which didn't matter. Its lip is now on a unworn shaft surface.

Great idea RedFish. It's nice to have a plan A and B available if needed. Thanks guys.
