There was some insane bidding on this Valiant, what gives?

Don Montgomery's Pissed Off Valiant

"The car is equipped with an Art Morrison Chassis that is welded into the body and ties in with a roll cage. It has Ride Tech coil overs and Currie third member in a Ford 9” rear end. The engine is a 6.4 liter crate Hemi that we machined an intake for so we could run the Borla eight stack on it. The combination is controlled with a Holley Dominator and custom harness and is followed up by a Bowler 6 speed Tremec transmission."

Yep, regardless of that expensive build, the patina is what drove up the price.:poke::rolleyes:

And that's the best hood scoop they could scrounge up?
I've never understood how people with that much money could lack so much taste.

i like the spoiler and the color...but of course, they had nothing to do with the color

need to keep an eye on the new members section and see if it pops up

Monster whilz and slammed to the ground. Ugh, whoever did that isn't going to win any points for creativity. Big motor, fake speed parts; What a boring car.

Yeah, I'm sure he would love all of the "creative" comments about his personal taste in doing this "boring" car. New members always enjoy that. Unfortunately there wasn't any interview with the owner.

Well, I know this isn’t gonna be a popular opinion hear (really couldn’t care less) but that’s the sexiest ‘69 Valiant I’ve ever seen! Been a big fan since I first saw it a few years ago.

And I guess it lives up to the name. It gets the purists Pissed Off.

 i don't know how many "purists" there are commenting. and i'm sure not PO'd. i think it's awesome someone has the coin to buy a car like that. and i don't begrudge the shops doing the hi end builds, because i like the eye candy too, and seeing everyone's ideas. and getting ideas from theirs. the first time i saw this car a few years ago i thought it was pretty kick ***. and i still do, but as a design study, not as a car i want to drive. and if a car doesn't make me want to drive it, it's not very useful as a car to me.
guess i'm just getting tired of everything needing to have a killer name for the build, with the requisite articles of how bitchin' and unique it is, (even though it isn't, really), and only seeing the car in a photo shoot instead of getting driven. that build is 7 or 8 years old and i wouldn't doubt it's still on the first set of tires.
it feels like we're at the same divergence point car builders were in the mid 50's to mid 60's. the high end custom builds that were mostly static displays vs hot rods, that no matter how nice they were, still got driven...or maybe i'm just FOS

Yeah I agree with you on the fact that there probably aren’t any true “purists” commenting on here and no one is actually po’d. And I also agree with you 100% on it being a crying shame if this car doesn’t actually get driven much. It kind of defeats the purpose of keeping the faded paint/patina if you’re never gonna drive it. Take my Duster for example, people ask me about when I’m gonna paint it or what color. I always tell them I have no plans of painting it anytime soon. It’s far too enjoyable to be able to drive it anytime, anywhere and not have to worry bout dirt, dents and scratches. My long term plans for my Duster will be similar to this Valiant but not as extreme. I have an HDK front suspension to go in it, will be installing an RMS Street Lynx rear suspension down the road and either a 6.4 Hemi or Hellcat swap eventually as well. But the body will stay ratty and you can sure bet that I’ll continue to drive the car when/where I want and thrash on it whenever I get a chance! :steering::thumbsup:
