Grooves cut into valve spring shims

Valve float makes sense. I thought it might be to much lift causing the damper to bind and cut the grooves. I should of mentioned that the heads are used and when I bought them I received them disassembled minus the valves, they where probably bent. The heads now have had a new set of shims, set of valves and seals. Thanks for the info.
Sounds random to say they were bent.
Ive played with different double springs on a .528 purple cam WITHOUT a spring tester and just set them up to box spec to find my shims all dug into 3 months later and never bent a valve. Even the heads were slightly scarred. Bought a spring tester after that..checked my open and made sure it was enough regardless of if the seat pressure was a hair high...but if it was low , i changed springs.
