Thanks for the reply. Colour doesn't matter.....Just don't want a chrome one as I will paint it with the car.

Used
I always purchase an new aftermarket one and take the sift rubber gasket and put on these 50 year old caps.

First thing you need to find out is "does it have" the CA evap fuel tank vent. Easy to tell. If the filler tube inside the trunk has a 1/4" vent tube welded in, it's a 69/ 70 non CA no evap

If there's a big vapor separator "thing" in the trunk, it's a CA evap / emissions setup and you need a "pressure vent" cap more like 71 in the photo.

So.....I've got a '71 with the evap system, but I also have a brand new non-vented tank from a 1970 Dart. I have purchased a fill tube with the neck vent from a '70 Duster, and never got a cap with it. I am going to run the 1970 system, and keep all of the 1971 stuff stored for the future.

Off topic, but if you're interested in selling your 71 cap and filler neck, I'm very interested. I've got a ISO ad on here already for one. I'm restoring a 71 Demon. Either way, best of luck to you in your search!

If you purchase a 50 year old gas cap, you should go to the parts store and purchase a new cap for the soft rubber!

Ahh gotcha! Have you ever had any luck making one out of an innertube? 40 bucks just to get the gasket from a re-pop cap seems high.

My cap broke last year. So I welded a new plate on it and fixed it. Look close at the photos.. Also replaced the rubber seal. The thanks Dad is a nod to my Father that passed away before I bought the car. But left me money in his will. So he kinda bought me the car. So the Thanks Dad. :)
