Not sure if this is where I should share this so I'll put it here. Let me know if there is another forum more suitable.
I haven't posted on here much for quite a few years, work got in the way. It is deer season in ND and it made me think about the Mopar find I made while hunting. A friend and I were out looking for tree rows to push in North Central ND and not having much luck when he asked me if I'd mind stopping by his friends farm to say hi. Since the hunting wasn't going well I figured what the he'll. We arrived at his friends farm and it was unseasonably warm for mid November in ND. As we were BSing I looked over at a small garage type building back behind the guys house and the door was open. It looked like there was a Mopar parked in there so I asked if he would mind if we walked back and take a look. He said sure. As we walked back to the building he started explaining that his high-school car was parked back there. When we got to the building, I could see the taillights of a Charger. We walked into the building and there was a 1969 Charger. I was shocked at the condition and asked how often he drove the car and he told me that he drove it maybe once a year for the past 20 years. He said that the tires were starting to dry rot so it hadn't been driven in a few years, just started it occasionally. For the next couple of hours we talked about the Charger and my passion for Mopars. I asked him about the Cragar rims on the car and he said he bought them brand new from Sears in the early 80s. He explained how he put the original rims in his basement and they were still in the same spot he put them in the 80s. He talked about how the drivers seat cover started to split at a stitched seam so he had some crushed velvet inserts made but he saved the original inserts and they were in his basement also. He said he looked for the build sheet when he had the seats out and didn't find one. I asked if he had ever checked behind the glove box. He said no, he didn't know that was where they were occasionally put. I asked him if I could check and he said go for it. I reached up behind the glove box and felt a piece of folded paper taped to the back. I asked him if he wanted me to try to carefully remove it and he said he'll yeah. So I carefully tugged at the tape and got it to come loose from the back of the glove box. We opened the paper and there was the build sheet in sunlight for the first time in over 40 years. We were both super excited to see it and he said he felt like he was a kid at Christmas. He asked if I would like to see it out in the sunlight and I said of course. I helped him get it started with a jump pack and some gas in a jar and he backed it outside. Wow...an original paint 1969 charger idling right in front of me. I couldn't stand it anymore and asked him if he'd consider selling the car. He said that he couldn't sell it because it was his high school car and he had owned it so long. I asked for his phone number so I could keep in contact with him. When he parked the Charger and closed the garage door I was pretty bummed. But then he said, he knew where to find deer and they were on his property and he would show me and my buddy where to go and allow us to hunt it. We were able to flush some deer and fill our tags but I couldn't get that Charger out of my mind. Here's a couple of pictures from that day 5 years ago. There's more to this story. Let me know if anyone wants to hear more.

Great story, great car. I didn't see if he would be willing to sell it.

He asked me if I wanted to see the original wheels and I said sure. Here's a picture of what I saw in his basement.

I stayed in contact with the owner and became pretty good friends with him. I would ask about the Charger almost every time we saw each other and he always had the same answer. I can't sell it.

Keep in contact. (I'm sure you will) Someday it will be time for him to sell and you will be at the top of the list.

Well Toolman that's more of the story. After 3 years of building our friendship he called me out of the blue one day and asked me to meet him at the local bar as he was in town for the afternoon. We met and BS'd about life. He asked me if I was still interested in his Charger and I said hell yes! We started talking price and it was soon obvious to me that he was doing alot of research on line and had an emotional attachment. We were quite a bit apart. I knew what I could afford and it wasn't close to what he wanted. We talked for quite a while and decided that the gap was too big to work out a deal. Bummer!

Great story, it sounds like you made a good friend.
Too bad that you couldn't come to an agreement on price, but that may change as the years pass.
This goes to prove that sometimes it isn't about the money, it's about the memories.........

He called me again; this is still 3 years ago, and said he and his wife wanted to come visit me and my wife. They arrived at our house and we went out to my shop to talk and look at my projects and talk cars. While our wives talked in the bar area of my shop we talked while looking at my Cuda. After we talked about the motor project on my Cuda we went over to our where our wives where talking. My wife had a big grin and I was curious what she was up too. My friend asked if we could talk about his Charger again. I told him I'd live too but I didn't have the money to meet his previous asking price. He said he'd like to talk anyways. He told me that he and his wife had advertised his Charger and had received alot of offers for it. Most of the offers came from out of state or local car flippers. They explained to me and my wife that they would like to see it go to a Mopar family and had decided to sell it to us for what I had offered him before. I almost started crying!! He told me that the car was at his insurance agents house in the small town of Mohall ND. His insurance agent (a Chevy guy) was trying to get him to sell it to him and trade him partially with a side by side UTV. He said that he and his wife had already told their insurance agent that they had decided to sell it to me and asked that he get it ready for me to pick it up!

I was hoping to see some sunshine here!

I have to admit...there's a big smile on my face as I share this story.
So, we shook hands on the deal and he set up a time for us to meet at his insurance agents place to pick up the car. A week later I headed North witha couple of friends, who didn't believe my story, to pick up the Charger. When we turned the corner one friend started swearing as soon as he saw the Charger parked in front of the agents house. When I got into the drivers seat to load the Charger my friend said that I was the 1st person to sit in that seat other then him and his wife in 40 plus years!! Here's some pictures from that day. I'm the fat guy in the picture!!

That is a great story, I was almost ready to read that the car was 'stolen' from under the insurance guys watch and was never seen again. Your's was a much better ending! I'd drive it! :D I'd be calling Ehrenberg and setting up a barn find photo op and article. I think its worth showing the Mopar community this gem!

The original motor was leaking all over my shop floor so out it came so I could reseal it. Decided I better get some hardened seats on the heads and changed the cam as it was showing signs of pitting. I upgraded to the smallest hydraulic roller Hughes Engines sells. Anything that came off the motor that wasn't reused is in boxes on the shelf.
