Hey guys, I am looking for some info on m code 440 block, my info shows that after january 1969, just the last 8 of VIN, is stamped on block on all m codes. Others say the entire VIN should be on block. Can anybody help with this? I am trying to see if I have a true numbers matching block. Also has anyone seen the holes drilled in the oil pump housing off center like mine. As always any help will be appreciated

As far as I've ever read, seen or heard only partial VINs were stamped. Also, it started "sometime" in 1968 it "appears". We've got a few really sharp guys here on those cars so if something's different, I'm sure they'll chime in.

Thanks, this site rocks. If anybody will know for sure, it's this site

Does the vin match your car? My '69 340 block has a partial vin with a casting date of 12/10/68 so more than likely yours may have a partial as well. You just never know with Ma MoPar.

Yes, the last 8 match, but I am being told that since it doesnt have entire vin , it ain't legit.. also the mount holes arent cenered?

Like they said, if you have a partial match, the last numbers I would say you have the correct engine. I think New Yorkers used that front mount.

For the 1969 model year they started stamping full 13 digit VINs.

That changed during the model year though and they started using only the last 8 digits.

Don't know who told you that but unfriend them. lol Your vin stamp is probably 9B3xxxxx and that's legit. Can't comment about the offset holes but it's probably normal.

Yes..it does. .. that's why I bought it. I do have an email into Galen g. To verify. I will keep everybody posted

Offset holes are probably in the right spot. The casting might have slipped.

Check to CL of crank, and compare to another block

Look for other holes shifted to one side.

Yes, the VIN will either be full or last 8, nobody knows for sure when it changed over. The 5 M-Code blocks I have had are drilled and tapped slightly offset on the oil pump bosses. The one I have at the shop right now was built in the first batch and has the entire VIN stamped on the engine and trans. build date C01...

Whoever said that is fulla ****. There's your answer starin you in the face. If it has the matching eight, it's the right engine. Congratulations. lol

What do you need to verify? I know more than he does about M-Code A-Body's...

Well thanks for your input. It holds true to what I have read.my literature states that january 1, was the cutoff. Before that has full vin, after january 1 it has the last 8. But this guy says he has a m code that was built on 03/29/1969 ( same as mine ) and it has full vin. Plus he has had others , and they all had full vin. He maybe playing me ?

I have owned a 69 383 4-speed GTS for 42 years and it has the same build date of 3/29/1969 and it has an 8 digit VIN on the engine and trans. It was being built on the same lines at the same time as the M-Code's so I would not trust that a car built around that date has a full VIN. Probably a re-stamp if it indeed does...My 2 cents...

Piss on that guy.

Yes, they were on the same line..i know that. And that makes sense. Your input is greatly appreciated

WRONG! Early 69 cars,68 calendar year production, prior to the 69 1/2 intro of the a12 did have full vin code. Calender year 69 production only had last eight of vin. If the vin pad on your block has the last eight of your vin, you're gold. Unless, of course, it looks tampered with/restamped.
