windshield wiper switch seems to have self-destructed or alternatively wiper motor pooped out or both

ISO NOS/recent rebuild/guaranteed working variable speed switch and motor built for electric washer pump

Does the car have two speed wipers or variable speed wipers... I'm not sure if the early A's had variable speed, like the 67 and later did for sure... But the switch may be different between the two, make sure to order the proper one...

A two speed wiper motor the round part comes out from the housing, on the variable speed motor the round part wraps around sideways to tell which wiper motor you have...

I believe you need to match the switch with the motor... FYI...

Also note: the variable speed switch HAS to be grounded in order to work properly. If it is just hanging while turned on it will cause all sorts of issues with parking the wipers, intermittent operation and acting like the switch is bad. Please don’t ask how I know.
Hopefully that is your issue. New switches are expensive.

I would have a used switch. They're all variable speed that year. Post your switch number and I'll verify we have a match.
