Help! I've got the rest extended as far as it'll go, but the posts won't slide out. I don't see a release, and I know that it's something simple. What am I missing??
Thanks!

My 73 had chrome cover around the each of the two slides with a screw it in that had a retainer that came out.
Then the slides would come all the way out.

This is from my '70 Duster. The mechanism or "catch" is on the left side of both front seats. My curiosity got the best of me today so while I was piddling with the car I did some investigating. I am recovering the seats anyway and wanted to get the headrests off so that I can restore them. So yes, it looks like a firm tug should free them. I didn't want to damage the headrest pad or the headliner trying. Also, important to note that the chrome plates held down with 2 screws at the top of the seat did NOT have to be removed to allow the headrest posts to slide out. Hope this helps.

Here is one of the headrests.....using a heat gun to remove the chrome strip. Should be the same as yours, right?
