i'm shopping for oil pan for my 340. i've been looking at the kevko pans. any preference for sump location? i'm leaning towards a rear sump pan but not 100% sure. i don't see any rear sump pans at the track being used.

what is everyone using for a drag only car?

The vehicle the engine is going into usually dictates the pan configuration. Car applications need a mid sump to clear and K and the steering linkage.

What chassis? Stock K member? If so, Milodon made rear sump Super Stock pans years ago, the issue being that a rear sump wants to take up the same real estate that your steering linkage occupies. They made one with a "pass-through" tube for the steering linkage. They don't list them anymore, so your best bet is used- here's a pic I pulled off racingjunk.com:

If it has the rest of the pick up that pan is worth $$$$$. Best chassis HP pan made.

I couldn’t find that on RJ

Do like they used to do back in the day-
Stock pan and cut the floor out and build your own. Modify the pick up and let her rip!

Keep in mind, Kevco will custom build you a oil pan to your dimensions, I've done a few for oval track chassis with the engine moved around. In your case, a full depth "box" style, with good baffling would be ideal.

Correct on the baffling. I’ve had some box pans that were big bucks that had junk baffling in them.

My custom built box pan with a 1.250 full length kick out was garbage until I added two baffles and changed two.

It had no baffles to force oil towards the pickup when you left so the oil all went up the back of the pan and block. And the first baffle in front of the pickup was too far forward AND it was vertical. I had to weld a 1 inch piece across it at a 45 degree angle to keep the oil from blowing right over that baffle on the brakes.

When I called the pan maker about the ridiculous baffles, he assured me my low 9 second car didn’t need any more than what they designed.

He was wrong.
