Stop in for a cup of coffee

I think my 360s hurt! I was checking compression and cylinder #7 shows a max of 70, #5 reads 120. And as of recent its been idling funny. It pops and backfires then dies. I squirted some oil to see if it would change but it didn't. My battery also ran low so its charging.
Wow that’s not looking good

Valves both closed, and air into cylinder.at least you will know which way the compression is going. Tailpipe, carb or crankcase.
I would hope for intake or exhaust valve leaking over broken rings.
I broke the porcelain out of a spark plug, and welded an air fitting to it. Low pressure air is all you need.

I checked it out with my camera and the top of the cylinder looks clean, the wall still shows cross hatch marks. The underside of the head was just black.

Nope

Thats right scoob.

Thats what I plan to do next.

Hey guys. Stripe looks good Mitch, One on my 69 was painted on, and clear coated over. Could not feel the edges....Crazy......

Maybe, either way worst case scenario whether it be head work or rings its going to the back burner again. Ill just continue with the Buick.
That’ll suck and be a big downgrade

Look into a valve or valve seal... If the cylinder is low and a couple squirts of oil don't increase the reading, then your cylinder and rings are ok, look at the valves or valve seals...

A leak down test will verify which cylinder and which valve...

Or pull the suspect head, leave spark plugs in, with head upside down - fill each combustion chamber of the head with water and see which one leaks...
