Yes sir, people have converted the column they have by getting the proper parts and making the conversion to a smooth column where the gear selector was an there have been some who've modified what they had by cutting that socket off and either welding in new metal or filling it in with fiberglass and body filler. Both methods seem to work equally well. There are threads about it if you want to do a search.
