choosing the right alternator

Leave your factory black wire attached at alternator and have it feed the compartment via bulkhead. Run a decent sized wire from alt to starter relay. I like to at least have a fusible link in it for protection, just in case.

You can remove most of the wires you mentioned from your connector. Not using the related components, ditch them.

I did just what you're wanting to do. I run a one wire alt and MSD in my B body and I removed all the wires from the bulkhead connection on the engine side except for the temp and brake warning light and a switched 12V. The only other wiring is the forward harness for lights etc. I'm gonna put foam in the bulkhead connector to prevent moisture from getting in there. The wiring look so clean now.
Good luck!

P.S.
I did keep all that wiring I removed in case I ever want to go back to something stock.

I welded up the hole in the bulk head connector I only have a few wires in engine bay. Head light and front wiring ran them on the inside of the fender and sealed up good.

I am looking to do the same set up you talked about. What wires at the bulk head connector did you ditch ? What do you need ? I will run a GM alt and a MSD box with a mopar electronic distributor.
Any pics
Thanks

Put my 1 wire alt. on the left and works great. hiding all my wires as best as I can. no bulk head wiring all the starter rely and hook ups are under the dash. Battery in the trunk. 2,000 miles and good so far but my first attempt and just learning.

Basically it was everything for the electronic ignition and the factory alt wiring going thru the bulkhead. Just find the ends your not using and follow them back to the bulk head and remove them.

So in choosing an alternator, how do you choose how much juice you need? Then when you come up with that number, are you shooting to have the alt. put that number out at idle? I have classic auto air , super sniper efi, wipers, lights, but no radio. Id like to leave room for electric fans for the BB if its needed in the future.

Thanks yee gurus of FABO

I'm not real good at figuring out the Amp. you need but this is what I have and 2 electric fans and no A/C or power windows or radio and it works fine for me.

I believe my accessories add up to about +\- 85 amps. How do i figure out what an alternator puts out at idle?

On the box I posted mine puts out 65 Amps. at idle. they make bigger ones and is a bolt on like factory. I think mine was $125 bucks.
You can check there web site and it should tell you.
