I’m 54 years old ! Born and raised in Texas ! Been at the drag strip my whole life ! How is it I have never seen a Mopar with a /6 go down the drag strip!! I remember Glen Self in his 68 Camaro 6 cylinder at Green Valley !! I remember some Ford Mustangs 6 cylinder !! So my question is what is /6 capable of running 1/8 or 1/4 ! I mean some you / guys post some ET’s MPH and short times !! I know there has to be some crazy fast /‘s out there !! Let me know what it takes to make a / run ! Some pics would be nice to !

My Slant six Runs 10.7 at the 1/8 at 68mph
Thats with all the junk out of the trunk 1964 4 Speed 225 4 barrel headers decent camshaft bigger valves and mild porting with 3.55 gears, im pretty sure if i swap the old camshaft back and run some 235 60 Cheaters would get a better take off. Not that quick but hey gets decent mileage and is low maintenance :BangHead:

That is pretty awesome ! 10.7 68mph is impressive! I had a 1980 F-100 w/ 3 on the tree 300 6 cylinder! Totally stock ran 11:90 1/8 !! I don’t remember the mph ! I think something like 58 mph but I really don’t remember!

For a truck that that isnt bad! i have been wanting to go back and get better launches but the whole covid non sense has the strip closed.

Well if you'd been at Portland International Raceway a year ago you would have seen one. I took a few runs last year at the end of the season. 66 Valiant, slant, three-on-the-tree, completely original factory survivor. Absolutely nothing on this car has been changed, upgraded, rebuilt, or improved since it left the factory. I made about eight runs, averaging about 20.5 seconds with a best of 19.8 or so. I think the top speed was somewhere in the upper 60's.

Me on the first run.

That’s a good looking car ! Did the 66 come stock with a 225 or was there a smaller / than a 225 ?

I'm not sure if it came with a 170 or 198. Mine is a 225. Here's a better photo.

@Charrlie_S would be a good one for you to see race. I had the privilege of seeing him in action many years ago in Reynolds, Georgia. His cars cook. I don't want to mess it up by posting incorrect times, It's been a long time ago and I don't remember specifics. I think he was runnin low 13s or high 12s.....in his nitrous car.....I do remember he was detuned a little because he didn't want to break anything. He had two cars there and brought a friend to drive the other one. I tagged him so maybe he will chime in. We had a member here named Mark who had an early car that was naturally aspirated and set all kind of records. I believe he got into the 9s. The car was wrecked and I haven't seen him around in a long time. @Charrlie_S though has a ton of pictures. Maybe he will share some!

There are threads over a slantsix.org listing Slant six racing series national records.
There are also separate threads listing individuals personal best 60 foot, 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile runs.
This is a copy of the 1/4 mile personal best.

I wonder what the 67's drive train would have done in an early car? That thing was kickin butt.

If I remember I got the 67's weight down to 2600 lbs all steel, less my fat *** so it was about 2825 lbs track weight.I did have plans to do fiberglass fenders, hood and trunk but in a weak moment sold the car. I did weigh the 64 but I don't remember it.

P.S. Charrlie S is the man when it comes to Slant Race Cars !

Come on Charrlie, How fast or how much isn't the case.
It's how much you know and have done over the years !

How is it I have never seen a Mopar with a /6 go down the drag strip!!

because it makes no sense to try and build a slant 6 for racing
for less money you can build a healthy 360 or a 408

so to run a slant 6 and be competitive you would have to be really dedicated to the slantie

Wow, you have never seen one?
Plenty of quick 6's running around the country.
The 6 doesn't get much respect here on FABO.
Come to Ennis next year and see my Colt.
