Well the 2020 race season is over

I have a remote control winch in my trailer but climbing in and out the window is my diet monitor. Lol.
Hey the 2000 race season is over so let's get on with some winter drag racing...
you should like this after the first four or five minutes of introduction blah blah blah...

Fully understand, I assume folks like John and A body only need one hit or two to have their stuff dialed in.

well if “smart bracket racing jay” would leave well enough alone... yeah, I could certainly be a threat about anywhere. Three years ago with the 727, 4150 intake, braswell 4825 carb and the right converter we were going 1.34 60 EVERYWHERE!! The car was incredibly predictable... so much so at one track we had a left lane and right lane dial. Of course “hot rod time slip chaser jay” comes to party and we changed to 904, 4500 intake, dominator by Thump and are now learning 9 teen combos. I’m still on a 10.5 tire so once again... not bracket ideal.

I get the “boring” side of racing.... there are events that you attend that you get 1 or 2 hits and then go into eliminations the next day. Four days at the track can get a bit tiresome to say the least, but battling through large fields of cars is your reward if you’re worthy. personally I prefer to find races that interest me at different places. Racing points at the same track vs the same people.... you can have that. Mopar specific events... maybe a heads up match race deal once in awhile. Mostly about finding fun places to hang out with my racing friends.

What I’d REALLY like to do?? Have about 4 engines all set up and a decent chassis and go dirt track modified racing! :)

Like the “can’t leave well enough alone “!

For me, this is the most exciting part of racing. Since I know very little everything is new and changes come around quickly, some good, some not so good:p

I understand where Jpar is coming from as in other forms of racing you do lap after lap and get multiple chances to make changes in one session. When I was racing motorcycles and karts a typical weekend would look like this.

Friday, two or three 20 minute practice sessions.

Saturday, morning two or three 20 minute practice sessions, afternoon two 15 minute qualifying sessions.

Sunday, morning two 20 minute practice sessions, afternoon, 10-20 lap race depending on the track length.

Raced at Willow Springs and Fontana mostly so in the summertime you would normally be doing all that in 100+ degree temps. Racing bikes had the added enjoyment of wearing racing leathers!

It’s all fun, I just need to be more focused now since I don’t get as many “chances”.

I see your in the SD area so I’m assuming you’ll be racin on da Rez! Barona is a pretty cool track. The atmosphere and people there really reminded me of my days in the Midwest.... on my first visit I’d no sooner unloaded the car and a track official cruised up on a four wheeler and introduced himself, asked me if I’d been there before, and gave me a complete rundown of the facility and encouraged me to check the track out. This was a Friday night before a Saturday afternoon event and it was pretty cool the amount of people that came up the night before to BnB.... (beer-n-bbq). 6hr one way trek for me so I don’t get down that way as often as I’d like.

Yep, actually live in Lakeside, about 14 miles from the track. Like you said, really nice people who are willing to help and reminds me of the folks back home in Pittsburgh at Motordrone raceway in the 80’s. I’ve ran the Dart there about four times so far and plan on going every other weekend when they are open.

If you make it out here again let me know. I live close, have tools, welders and a garage if needed!

Might be even able to whip up some Milhunky food!

well....our governor put an end to our racing for the remainder of the year

Last weekend was the last for my local track ( Island Dragway ) for the year and that was only test and tunes, they were supposed to be open this coming weekend and Black Friday but new government restrictions canceled that. The track owner already has to go to court over three pandemic related violations. I went last Saturday to get my new throttle controller dialed in ,I attempted two runs with the stop off but track conditions weren't great ( cold ) and I spun going only 10.99. ( should have been 10.60s) I am done for the year, the race season was shortened due to the pandemic so I didn't get out as much as usual. I didn't have a good year , didn't break anything just didn't do well only bright spot was qualifying #1 out of 52 cars in 11.50 index at Atcos Halloween race and going a few rounds so at least I got $ for the rounds and qualifying spot. My friend drives my pickup at my local tracks annual Mopar race and he Won T3 ( trophy class 13.00 and slower ) for the fourth year in a row. The first weekend in November I decided to make the 2 1/2 hour trip to Cecil County Dragway in Maryland for their final Strange Street Car Shoot Out to run 11.50 index , I went friday to get dialed in and get familiar with the track, I'd always heard good things about the track and friends telling me I had to go there, I see why it was a really nice place so much so that I am considering running points in 11.50 index in their once a month Street Car Shoot out next year.I don't have to do much to the car over the winter just regular maintenance . My backup 363 will be ready in February , I might put it in just to see how it runs or just keep it as is ( ready to go ) as my current 408 is running well. The car was completely rewired including a one wire alternator last spring, it was a pleasure having the car always charging and not having to worry about it not starting between rounds, I continue to get compliments on my new wheel combination so even if it didn't go a lot of rounds this year at least it still looked good.

Hey JPar now that you run Karts you might check out Karts and paintball! One of my fellow firearms instructors told me about it. Not sure if it is a real thing but it sounds like a hoot. You can’t make this up! Fly around the course, steering wheel in one hand paint ball gun in other. What could possibly go wrong? Had to have been some really bored Kart guys or some really bored paintball guys.

I would have to say the paintball guys are getting bored LOL when you're in that kart there isn't one minute that you're not totally focused. When you're pulling 3 g's in the corners you better have both hands on the wheel...

If you look real close, I also have a remote winch. It is tucked under my bench behind the windshield wiper motor. Been there a couple years now. Every time I climb in or out of the car in trailer I think to myself I need to get that thing in here. Some day, maybe....

Remember that's Pittsburgh's weight control... If he puts in a winch to pull it in there's no telling how out-of-control he might yet LOL...

All i can say to all this ho ha is, that some find racing fun and then all the BULL PUCKY, takes all the fun out of it, and they look of another hobby.
Me, my self, i started drag racing when i was 17(against my parents wishes) and sence that day, have not missed a racing season. some vary lean, some full years.
Some day, i may be unable to open that car door, but i will still be wishing that i could. Watching drag racing in the grand stands drive me nut!!!! would much rather be setting in the staging lane grumbling because it hot out and I have been setting in the lanes for hours.

Drag Racing is a "Family" and i love them all!!!!!!! And just like a family you have them relative you would rather not see, but hay, there part of the family!

I got a very bad kidney infection back in 2016 that made me go to the hospital after two days of not being able to piss. When you take a piss you usually piss out slightly over 200cc’s of urine. The stuck a catheter in me and drained out over 1200cc’s. He asked how I got there and I told him I drove the 12 miles. I was told to see a urologist early next week and they pumped fluid in my ***** and I couldn’t pass it so a catheter was stuck in and I had to wear a bag. Surgery was scheduled the next Tuesday to have a laser procedure done to my prostrate infected by the urine. After the surgery I was told to call him if I had issues. Well Friday I did and couldn’t piss so I went in and 2300cc’s were drained out.

DAMN that’s over 10 times normal. That had to be painful.

Yikes!!!..

A catheter was again put in me and a bag strapped to my leg. That day I went home, got on my knees, cried, and prayed my heart out. I was saved that day. I was to the point where they were about ready to teach me how to install my own catheter and my life as I knew it was ending. I could take my walks but that was about it. I joined a local small church and a year later I was totally cured. 6 months after that I was Baptized and attending church and a Wednesday night Bible study with friends. Life is good

Oh I agree drag racing is definitely a family affair... We would have big potluck lunches with Chevy Ford Mopar it didn't matter... When it got real hot I would definitely bring my motorhome with the air conditioning on and a freezer full of cold waters... Everybody was welcome...
I don't think I'll ever stop taking my car to the track and taking passes and like I said probably always go to the Mopar Nationals if possible. It's not something I've done since I was 17 at least officially on a track LOL... For me for the Long haul it's just running out of the kind of constant action I need... It's no longer keeping my brain busy enough.. for the time and money invested I'm just not getting the kind of action that I feel I deserve out of my investment. again this isn't any attempt to put down drag racing in any way shape or form. It's always something I aspired to do from a very small kid and I've done it...

I raced at RMR all my life until i moved to Wy. and we go that small 1/8 track running. It was the last year of rmr ( hadn't been back in some 12 years or so) I decided to go back so that i could get a 1/4 mile run on my new combo before they closed the doors.
It was nice to see that a, hand full of my racing buddy was still there, laying rubber down.:steering:

Only about three of my very close street racing buddies from the 1970’s still race. A couple more still have their cars but they never move. Several of the out of towners that came to race against us are still close track friends. Keystone has a great really fast test n tune crowd that tests religiously but could care less about racing. But their support helps our track financially. I track guys I met in the 70’d and 80’s is either quitting, dieing, or Racing a few times a year. But you always meet new friends.

3 of my close friend started racing with me. only 1 of them 3, lasted past the first year and the last one quit racing after 4 years because he got married.
It's funny about racer.....you hang out many weekend a summer together. During the winter, you may only keep up with one or maybe two of them, but the first race, you pick up with like you racing friends like if it was just last weekend. Try and do that with a girlfriend:mob::rofl:
OK I take that back, have some female, racing friends, that fit in the above category:D

I never been a big money racer. Honesty I suck at it and it was crazy work and long hot weekends. I started racing Mopar only and nostalgia events. Most have a car show or something other then your trailer to look at. 2 years ago I joined MANDRA ( Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Drag Racing Association) Its no box racing and mildly competitive. It seems to be a good fit for me and my family.
Hope next year is better to all of our tracks. I know the PA and NJ tracks suffered. I plan to support them as much as possible.
